I don't understand why the awful ratings on this album unless death metal based genres just aren't your type of music? Sure it's deathcore, but these guys a lot better then some of today's shit that's coming out. I feel like it a lot more listenable at least. It's nothing special, but it isn't garbage either, they actually have solos, and it isn't all breakdowns (but of course there are quite a few). They are definitely going in the right direction, it's not all slow low tuned bullshit, just grinding it out each and every song, yet at the same time it kind of is. So it's kind of a contradiction. But, every song has noticable differences, does not get boring in my mind, check it out.

I was a huge Chelsea Grin fan nearly 10 years ago now (begin existential crisis), but have continually struggled to return to the albums I used to love. (i)My Damnation(i) has aged poorly and only has a few moments of true inspiration, and Ashes to Ashes feels like (i)The Discovery(i) lite. This is a unique experience compared to the rest of the 2010s deathcore. The use of black metal influences and atmosphere have helped this album age incredibly well for a record I thought was worse than their earlier releases, even just a couple years ago.

Chelsea Grin don't ever seem to capitalize on anything they already have laid down, thereby leaving this record My Damnation with a boatload of missed opportunities. The added traces of doom metal are barely prevalent and do next to nothing in showcasing the bandmates' potential, while the production - which is never too bad - is incredibly basic. Alex Koehler's vocals are almost sick enough for me to give this a higher rating, though his laughably evil lyrics combined with the milquetoast musicianship interfere.

I actually feel that this album somewhat went over some people's heads. The vocals are raw as hell and that's going to be divisive, but the instrumentation is actually much more akin to the blackened death metal sound of bands like Behemoth and Hate than to deathcore bands. This is actually a fairly interesting release, even if there's far too many breakdowns and a few weak tracks here and there.

Where DOE was generic, but not a failure, My Damnation steps up to really make sure Chelsea Grin is a name known next to Suicide Silence. It's hard to be 5-star rating deathcore band, but Chelsea Grin really does impress with this work. Nice new vocals and tasteful instruments more often than not.

What more can you expect from Chelsea Grin than something as mediocre as this album turned out? Simply put, this is simple, by-the-books deathcore in almost every single way. I give a tad bit of credit though to the band for sticking to themselves, and not listening to all the nonbelievers such as myself, continuing on to craft their brand of deathcore and just not giving a single shit along the way. My Damnation upsets me though, since this was that album where the band could have set themselves straight after their last plunge and really define themselves. Too bad they went in the wrong direction and created an album as boring and repetitive as this is. Mad kudos to the vocalist though, he has a pretty wild range and his highs are absolutely killer.

Chelsea Grin are back only a year later with nothing new to offer but bland generic songs. If you enjoyed last years
Desolation Of Eden then you will have no problems listening to this one. There are a couple of differences but
nothing to get excited over. Firstly in the vocal department I found Alex Koehler has changed up his style. The group
have decided to toss away the youthful pig squeals in exchange for more high pitch shrieking, which sound strangely
different this time around. The addition of guitar solos is a welcome one, giving the listener a few moments to
breath. Apart from that Chelsea Grin luckly have chosen the best song off the record as there single. My Damnation
sums up the whole album in 4 minutes. It's fast, full of screaming and has plenty of breakdowns to offer. It's a real
shame that the band lossed focus on this record. After hearing this 5 times over 3 days it has only grown on me a
little bit. Nothing too special but still enjoyable at times.

Mediocre in almost all aspects, showing no true instrumental skill outside of the occasional attempt at a solo or technical riff. The instrumental is literally flopped in there with no real purpose as it doesn't lead or lend to the title track that follows it. In an attempt to add depth, the band has fallen flat. Lyrics are still laughably nonsensical and song structure is still over 75% breakdowns. The only song I'd suggest is "Oblivion" because it's short and it isn't too painful on the ears. "Calling in Silence" has a nice outro. Otherwise, ignore this.

Solid Deathcore album. I heard much better stuff but it's okay and over the average deathcore. The vocals have changed and you have to deal with it, but I think they are even more interesting than the old vocals. Breakdowns are everywhere - of course. Those are just average. It's okay for the ones who like the genre, but the others should get far away from this.
