4.5 superb | Cuban Pete | July 13th 11 | This is a different Fair to Midland than what we got on Fables. Between a four year wait and a label change, I'm not surprised. This record is generally heavier, but strangely, it's also more accessible; just about every track would be right at home on the radio. This is partly due to Darroh Sudderth's reserved performance; he just doesn't get as extreme as he did on Fables. There's no quick octave-hopping here, but he still rocks the microphone. Unfortunately a change in the production has resulted in his vocals being a bit buried in the mix; the guitars muddy it up a little too much for my liking. The song writing is a bit more straightforward too but they still manage to keep you guessing with their quirkiness. However, don't let the negative feedback sway you; this is Fair to Midland. This is an awesome record in the end.

0.0 | someguest | July 9th 11 | It's definitely great, but there's a glaring problem with the close similarity between the tracks - which wasn't really an issue for the band until this release. And it seems the emphasis on a heavier sound took the power away from some of the things that made Fables... unique (atmosphere and vocals). Regardless, this is still experimental rock done extremely well.

2.0 poor | Crowe | July 12th 11 | Shame this band is starting to get a close-minded fanbase - anyway, this is rather rdisappointing: "It's not so much the band itself or even the songwriting, which I personally think is weaker overall, but the production here is atrocious. It's a meaty heavy sound, which is okay in and of itself, but it drowns the singer out, who himself doesn't vary his tone as much as he did on Fables. Mix in a thick sound, a decreased level of songwriting quality, and too much length, and all together for me it's just a poor effort."

4.0 excellent | Trey STAFF | January 23rd 20 | Fair to Midland’s previous album, Fables From A Mayfly, was one of my favorites. Their blend of quirky, almost folky, alternative rock mixed with Darroh Sudderth’s unique vocals melodies was an instant hook for me. Arrows & Anchors lost a lot of that quirky feel, and it took me a long time to really appreciate it. Instead of folky alt. prog, the band moved in a more aggressive direction with heavier guitar riffs, more aggressive vocal parts, and less emphasis on the vocals and melodies. For fans of the previous release, that was a big shock. Over the course of the last eight years, though, Arrows & Anchors, has continued to grow on me and has slowly become a favorite… not up there with Fables From A Mayfly, but damn near.

3.5 great | Stop calling Intronaut post-metal | June 30th 14 | Yet another album that I can add to my 3.7 collection. This record comes so close to being
"excellent" but its luster is somewhat immediate. I wish I could say that the musical
interludes add depth but instead come off as filler. About half of the tracks deliver the
payoff, and when FtM hits, they hit hard.

5.0 classic | PTRKoulou | September 7th 23 | Please come back, we love you :') rOne of the most all killer, no filler albums I've listened to, with a very interesting mish-mash of folk, blues, prog rock and alt metal. It's a shame that they seem to have parted ways, but we can always savour the great albums they left us.

4.0 excellent | Scott | November 19th 19 | This record is undoubtfully colorful and ambitious, and it pays off this time around. FFAM had some of the same instrumentation and concepts found on this record, but the rough mix didn't let those elements bleed through as much as probably intended. Here, those components shine through with the mix as both subtle when it needs to be, to prominent when it has to be. This is a much darker record in contrast to its predecessors. Its lyrics can be convoluted at some points, but it still gets its message across of the looming dread haunting the tracks. This album diverges from its core elements, and most of the time it still feels consistent. The interludes are the only glaring problem with the record. They are good points to catch your breath as to introduce and send a farewell to the front and the ladder parts of the album, but they aren't very good. It feels like they're wasting time at points instead of feeling brief and purposeful.

3.5 great | EasterInTheBatcave | June 9th 16 | Fair to Midland have a fresh, unique sound, reminiscent of a pastoral Faith No More. Vocalist Darroh Sudderth is incredibly talented, with a phenomenal clean voice, impressive range, and growling ability too. The songs are well-constructed and cohesive without running together. However, the track sequencing isn't good, and there are too many interludes. Overall though, Arrows and Anchors is a fantastic achievement. It's a shame this band broke up, because their next record could have been the masterpiece that this one hints at it.

3.5 great | Britch2tiger | March 1st 16 | A sound definitely differing than that of their Fables album. Kinda scratching my head as to why they regressed to using the "hard rock" variation on their guitars. Now this album sounds more of an eclectic hard rock album instead of an album from that of a prog rock band... Still pretty good, but just expected better. I mean even the better Chevelle or 10 Years' albums sound more impressive than this album. Also, why did track 10 exist? Still one of the better 3.5/5 rated albums I've heard.

4.5 superb | ItsOnlySkinDeep | July 14th 11 | Once again, Fair To Midland has released another masterpiece. Darroh's voice is superb as
always going from high pitched screams to death growls in an instant. While slightly more
restrained, it does not dampen the mood of each song at all. I must say that Rikki Tikki
