This is really good. Of course it appears we will have never the slow crunching melodics of rNocturnal back, but I cannot complain about these faster cuts. Has potential to be a grower rfor me.

As a long time BDM fan, this album exceeded my expectations. It definitely has the Black Dahlia Murder sound, but not in a way that's formulaic.

Ritual does exactly what previous albums do. By showcasing their ever increasing talent without being over the top. Shows more diversity than any other release. But their guise is it's losing luster, as Miasma and Nocturnal had a new feel of death metal I had not heard from an American band. This just proves that progression of this band has not been fruitful enough over 5 albums to feel any different from the previous endeavours.

Melodic death metal with relentless drumming, At The Gates-inspired riffing, crazy solos, shrieking and howling lead vocals, and over-the-top lyrics? It's a The Black Dahlia Murder record alright. One of the things I've come to appreciate about them other than their remarkable album-to-album consistency is that you can always rely on them for a great opener. "A Shrine To Madness" just might be their best, as it not only is an excellent song on its own, but it really sets the tone for the rest of Ritual. No song other than "The Window" and closer "Blood In The Ink" ever really comes close, but that's not to say there isn't some good stuff elsewhere. Still, the issues with this record are the same with all of the other records from TBDM: not entirely original, occasionally boring, and relatively samey. Still, this is a good melodic death metal record full of energy (as if they'd ever release anything but), with a couple of career highlights on the tracklist.

Compared to their previous record, this is really a step forward for the band in terms of songwriting, production and maturity. Many consider this as the band's peak, though in my opinion the album feels kind of repetitive at moments. A thing I really dig about this one is the dark atmosphere it has from start to finish, and the consistency of the band is another admirable aspect.

A very impressive death metal album with tight guitar riffs, drum work and beautiful atmosphere that Ritual sets. Favorite tracks for me on here are "A Shrine To Madness", "A Grave Robber`s Work" and "The Raven".

Definitely worth a listen! Unfortunately it does not surpass some of their past efforts. I personally expected a little bit more after "Deflorate." However, this album does live up to black dahlia's name and I can't complain about that.

Besides two or three stellar tracks, its just another Black Dahlia album. Not really bad, and full of some epic solos (which is an area they've improved in this time around), but its not masterpiece or even truly excellent album. Just a nice listen thats occasionally awesome and occasionally boring and repetitive. These guys have been doing everything the same way since their first album. Their no awesome band, but their still pretty good in my eyes despite lacking diversity in songwriting. Guilty pleasure for me if nothing else. I like them a lot, especially a few certain songs, but I acknowledge their many faults and lack of diversity in many areas. Get the album if you like the genre, or if you want to find 2 or 3 great tracks to take away. Prolly a low 3.5.

If this album has shown anything it is that there is a clear lack of creativity and that TBDM have clearly slumped musically. I was disappointed by this album but I am hopeful that their next release will be prominent and inspirational.

I didn't find this the best BDM album. It was pretty good. Better than Deflorate but it's not better than any other
albums. Mostly the reason is because you can't compare Ritual with the other albums. Ryan Knight is a great
guitarist, but he brings a different atmosphere to the sound and it isn't like any of the older releases. This is just a
way better version of Deflorate. Using string instruments brings a great feel to some of the songs and were my
favorite parts of the album. The first track, A Shrine To Madness, The Window and Blood In The Ink were the
highlight songs on this album for me as well as the single, Moonlight Equilibrium.
