Damn this record is pissed. On their debut, the Meat Puppets seem to already sound much different than their peers in the hardcore scene. The tempo is still quite fast for the most part and the vocals are quite angry, but the there is something about the sound that is much different. They seem to have a country vibe seeping in, just like their second album established. Plus, there is a sense of psychedelia here that most punk bands would have a distaste for. All this was most likely caused by the insane amount of tripping they did (the vocals on this are fucking manic). Because of this the performances are quite sloppy, but it adds a very comical element to the sound which is quite enjoyable. Whether it was intentionally funny or not is beyond me, but it still comes off as hilarious. Truth be told though, this album is impossible to describe, although I think KILL said it best.rif you are lookin for a crazy retarded good time then jam this shit, if you want great music get meat puppets 2 or up on the sun, you probably wont like this if you take everything seriously like maniac and even though he is a judo master, he will never know the true feeling and the soul of rock, adn that is a damn shame indeed.- KILL on April 22, 2012
