3.0 good | Onirium | March 14th 15 | We could spend quite some time criticizing Yes's recent career; for a long time, the group has
been constantly oscillating between touring the world revisiting past hits note for note, and
producing uninspired and nostalgic music that looked with too much nostalgia at the band's golden
years. That is unless their most recent work, Heaven and Earth, can be considered as "moving
forward." Still, with Fly From Here in 2011, Yes had perhaps found the right formula to fit their
current situation; reusing pieces composed in more prolific years, and reworking them with a
slight modern touch. Such an idea might seem to abound in nostalgia, but if nostalgia is the way
the group has decided to take - which is perfectly legitimate, given their status as veterans -
why not accept it completely? While some compositions here have a new wave touch that sounds dated
to me at least, we are left with a Fly From Here with great melodic sensibilities bringing us back
to the more accessible but still interesting side that 1980's Drama unashamedly bore. Plus, Benoit
David does quite a job at emulating Anderson while actually maintaining his own musical identity.

3.5 great | ijy10152 | July 7th 14 | Fly From Here is undoubtably a mixed bag, the title track/epic is phenomenal featuring some great parts and one of their catchiest melodies. The rest however isn't so great, Life on a Film Set is quite lame and the rest is only decent besides the final track Into the Storm which is very good.

3.0 good | froghawk | July 2nd 14 | It's forgettable, but aside from Magnification and possibly Keystudio, it's the best thing Yes has released since
the '80s. This is because more than half of this record is based off of '80s demos, and for once the production
isn't atrocious. This album would certainly have been better if it had been recorded right after Drama with
Trevor Horn singing instead of a cheap Anderson soundalike, but we'll take what we can get. The title track
goes on for too long without enough variation, and some of the later songs feel a tad like filler, but this is
probably the best Yes today is going to get (as they've basically become a tribute band to their old selves).

4.5 superb | dave241151 | July 8th 11 | The first time I listened to this album I loved it immediately. Benoit David has a superb voice & more than qualifies as a mere temporary replacement for Jon Anderson. Trevor Horn's production is spot on and the band as a whole are on top of their game. As much of the album was written by Trevor Horn & Geoff Downes then it does sound a bit like a Buggles CD but is none the worse for that. The title track may not be up to other epics like "Close To The Edge" or "Awaken" but is a great piece of music nonetheless. The chorus on part 2 is sublime and the track as a whole should sound great live. I particularly liked Chris Squire's "The Man You Always Wanted Me To Be" which has a real sing-a-long coda. The playing from all concerned is excellent and once again the Squire/White rhythm section shows how good it is. Steve Howe's guitar playing is the best I've heard him play in years. I always felt his playing got "bitty" during the "Tormato" sessions and didn't get back on track until "The Ladder". Great to have Geoff Downes back on keyboards too ~ I was (and still am) a great fan of "Drama" and it'll be good to see tracks from this much underated album played live. We've booked seats at "The Armadillo" in Glasgow in November and I can hardly wait! In conclusion this album may not be a "90125" but it's a real return to form and please lads, don't leave it another 10 years before you produce another album...

4.0 excellent | simonc | July 5th 11 | Yes were probably at their peak for the six albums between The Yes Album in 1971 and Going for the One in 1977. For a short while, around 72/74, they were undeniably one of the biggest bands in the world. For musicianship, challenging themes and the ability to "transport you somewhere else", there is nobody, in my opinion, that comes even close. "Fly from here" might not be as good as what they were doing in the 1970's but it's a whole load better, more inspiring and downright enjoyable than anything else I've heard over the last year or two.
