Ampere is back with a vengeance. 'Like Shadows' is deceptively layered and complex
underneath the unrelenting aural assault. Fast but not brutal, melodic but dissonant. Ugly &
beautiful, this is their finest work to date. Don't blink.

"Like Shadows" is an album that i listened to with low expectations, and this helped me a lot in absorbing the lyrics and structure of the songs. Unknown in his discography, this Ampere album is not at all as fanciful like the others, but presents itself as a beautiful alternative of amusement amid the chaos.

Like Orchid before them, Ampere have the gift of writing very short songs that are both powerful and memorable. Whole albums blow fly past where three songs normally would, and the musicianship on display is nothing short of heart-stopping. Like Shadows is a fitting title for this explosion of screamo treading dangerously into powerviolence territory; shadows can represent darkness, and they can also represent fear. Stephen Pierce is a powerful vocalist, that enough is certain, and he may be at his most powerful when he sounds frightened (as he does many, many times here), as if he's being thrown around by all of the chaotic instrumentation around him. As for darkness, the lyrics here are at once depressing, raging, and slightly disturbing, giving an air of apprehensive frustration and deep melancholy. It's a very intense record, and in this sense, the thirteen minute length is a blessing. Who knows what they'll do next, if anything, but at least we have this to remind ourselves why we wait.

The fastest album I think I've ever listened to. I suggest an ear for powerviolence/thrashcore or you might be turned-off by this one.

This music is supposed to be raw/heavy and I know that, but it just sounded like emotionless noise. There were very few parts on this album that were interesting, the rest of it was down in the gutters as boring and annoying to say at the least.

This has the musical integrity of a toddler banging on pots and pans. I realize this is intended to be chaotic and sloppy, but I could pick up 4 strangers walking in front of house on their way to get crack and trump this tenfold. Fucking horrible

i thought punx generally got lamer as they got older? i was eleven when they formed, i'm twenty now, and i'm pretty sure they were all older than i am now back in 2002. this record is their best yet, maybe best of the genre. uhh...

So here we are, the Massachusetts natives with another release. "Like Shadows" its a masterpiece as revolutionary and groundbreaking as Radiohead's Kid A, perhaps even better. To have an album better than Kid A, is theorically impossible, considering Pitchfork Media gave it a legendary 10.0, so there's no space to grow because there isn't a rating as perfect as that one.
In my professional opinion Ampere has pulled an album of about 10.7, yeah i know, that's a first. But rules and history is to be rewritten, we are right now in a crucial time in indie music history, in hipster subculture history and overall we have the pleasure of listening one of the greatest albums of the decade.
Beautiful yet Ugly, Infinite yet 47 minutes, Chaotic yet Familiar, Death Brutal Metal yet Childish, Masculine-Hyper-Macho music yet Femenine and delicate.
Think about it.

Holy shit. The last album that had me on the edge of my seat like this was something out of pg.99's discography, and even then this is a ride like no other. Short, fast, brutal and passionate - everything Ampere ever had in them, distilled into the best 13 minutes of the year.
