5.0 classic | Iai EMERITUS | June 26th 06 | "1967. Nothing caught the strangeness of these days, or captured the combination of beauty and dread they contained, quite like Love's masterpiece Forever Changes." That's what the sleeve says, anyway - and it's spot on. Forever Changes is one of those rare albums that captures its time perfectly, and somehow becomes timeless. "Andmoreagain" and "Old Man" are utterly perfect love songs, the latter bettering Ray Davies in the nostalgic and homely stakes. "Alone Again Or" and "You Set The Scene" are totally technicolour, bursting into life like the best trip you've ever had. The rest strikes a fine balance between appreciating the beauty of the world while acknowledging the ever-present evil that threatens to destroy it. Surely what America in the 60s was all about, right? Forever Changes is musicians taking drugs making music to take drugs to; but hey, this still sounds awesome when you're straight. A masterpiece of uneasy listening.

4.0 excellent | hummer | December 4th 06 | Out there. Weird. Drug Music. All of which could be used to describe this album, but that would be ignoring just how brilliant it is. Recorded in the late 60s, when some freaky shit was going on, this album seems to encompass the times perfectly, you almost feel liek you've gone back 40 years hearing it. The overall sound of the album sounds as if Bob Dylan and Syd Barrett somehow conceived a child, who then went out and combined the sounds of his fathers complete with string arrangements. Oh the string arrangements. Best ever in rock album. This is one of those albums where if you consider yourself a rock fan, you need to hear it.

4.0 excellent | Britch2tiger | April 16th 18 | A tad underwhelming for my tastes regarding 1960's rock, but has it's moments that understandably would be regarded as one of the better albums of the decade, esp tracks 3, 5, and 8. A very solid album even w/ my personal indifference to the vocals.

5.0 classic | Robbit | May 13th 16 | FOREVER CHANGES is a psychedelic masterpiece that deserves much more attention in the 21st century. It's almost shocking how
much Love evolved since their DA CAPO album. The opening song "Alone Again Or" (which was excellently covered by UFO) is a
surprisingly well arranged song, very much in the vein of the Spaghetti western music that was showcased in movies from this
era. While not every track on the album amazes, the highlights are incredibly moving. "The Red Telephone" is classic
psychedelia and "You Set The Scene" is wonderfully arranged and contains some soulful & beautiful themes.
The diversity of their influences is startling and the arrangements are quite progressive and infectiously interesting to
the ears. Arthur Lee was a genius. A Timeless, ageless, absolutely beautiful stuff!

0.0 | americanmusicmachine | July 18th 10 | as a jaws fanatic and shark obsessive 8 year old i loved the shit outta jaws 2 and jaws 3-d but even the innocent and forgiving and uncritical eye of my 8 year old self could find no redeeming qualities in jaws 4: the revenge. the first movie I remember ever HATING. in fact i remember getting my mouth washed out with old spice aftershave (we were poor we owned no soap) after saying "fuck this shit" after jaws 4: the revenge ended its brutal ass-rape of my childhood.

5.0 classic | GimmeShelter | March 23rd 10 | An amazing album. It both captures the essence of the social climate of 1967 and describes the less positive look on the California scene that was so big at the time. "The Daily Planet" and "Andmoreagain" are key songs, but the two that stick out are "A House Is Not A Motel" and "Alone Again Or" because of the fantastic lyrics and use of guitar thanks to the brilliant Arthur Lee. Just brilliant.

3.5 great | ubermensch518 | December 6th 09 | Nice, but just not really impressive, and certainly not really weird compared to the rest of 1967
sounds like glorified mariachi music for most of the album

4.5 superb | AggravatedYeti | November 3rd 08 | Beautiful, engrossing, reflective, haunting, heartbreaking, reaffirming, brilliant -- amazing. 'Forever Changes' is a gorgeous chronicle of Arthur Lee, lead singer, as he was living during the late 60s, the cusp of the 'hippie revolution' and a time he was convinced he was going to die. The lyrics are morose, but the music itself is lush and even upbeat. The horn sections that roar throughout the album only compliment the pristine string arrangements and soothing riffs. The fantastic instrumentation only brings forth the beauty of Lee's voice, and his lyrics. Bits like "Sitting on a hillside -- Watching all the people die -- I'll feel much better on the other side." become all the more haunting and long lasting. A pinnacle of American music.

5.0 classic | sunflower2020 | August 29th 07 | Love's third album is released in 1967 and marked radical artistic departure for the band. Probably one of the best hippie albums ever, "Forever Changes" is a really significant title. After this, there was no way back. At the first listen, you hear some really nice harmonies. But every other listening reveal more and more conflicts, displeasures. Jac Holzman said that Arthur Lee was one of the most talented musicians ever, but it was Lee's schizoid personality that kept him off the bigger commercial success. Here, on "Forever Changes", he already began to slide into his inner world. And that is the essence of "Forever Changes" - You know, everything is alright but I want to get away, it is not the world I wanna live in, so I'm gonna find another one. In one word, escapism.

0.0 | Rocksta71 | November 29th 06 | So much can be said about this ground breaking gem. Brillaint, honestly. The instrumental work is increadable! the lyrics cryptic and seldom revealing. It is said that this album best describes the strangness of the psychadelic era, but I think it best describes the world as a whole, the beauty and the beast that is life.
My favourite album of all time, no questions asked,

5.0 classic | BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- | August 20th 06 | Forever Changes is one of the best albums of the 60's, a hidden Psychedelic gem that should have sold millions but instead became a cult classic. It's a shame more people don't know about this album. Arthur Lee was an incredible songwritter and he also organized the orchestration, which is wonderful. (probably the best ochestration heard on any Rock record) This album captured the times better than any album that came out of 1967, which is saying something. If you're a fan of music, get this, if already haven't.
