Combining previous recordings, re-recordings of Reel Big Fish classics, and an entire disc of acoustic renderings of several songs from the band's back catalogue, A Best of Us for the Rest of Us can give a number of mixed reactions to listeners. Though many of the re-recordings are unquestionably weaker than the original recordings they were derived from, these new versions prevail is quite fresh, merging the compositions of the band in their prime, though executed with the new, modernized sound of Reel Big Fish. Completing the first disc are a handful of tracks that are not owned by the band's former label, Jive Records, which are reissued in their original form here. The second disc, Skacoustic, features extremely interesting and highly underrated acoustic versions of favourites from the ska duet "She Has a Girlfriend Now" to the almost instrumental "241". Though far from essential for the general listener, A Best of Us for the Rest of Us is definitely a worthy addition to the collection of a Reel Big Fish fan.
