At just a little over 30 minutes this is Buckethead's shortest album, but crammed into these 30 minutes are everything that we've grown to adore from Mr. B. You have those hair raising epic moments (Lebrontron), you've got quirky avant-garde songs (Picking the Feathers), and also some downright funky tracks with a little bass slap action (Barnyard Banties). So to summarize, in only 30 minutes Buckethead has covered his entire career into one album.

A strong start to the Pikes series. A mix of riff smorgasbords ("The Hatch," "Picking the Feathers") and Buckethead's traditional post-'06 rock styling ("Lebrontron," "Tonka"). While there's nothing especially new on offer, Buckethead's covered basically every genre on the planet at this point... so, really, what's he supposed to do? A good addition to Big B's elephantine discography.

Buckethead began his "Pikes" album series in 2011 and has released a barrage of entries over
the past couple years. It's safe to say that It's Alive allows this enormous body of
work to start off on a strong note. While it contains a couple typical heavier tracks that
hardcore Buckethead fans would possibly deem as generic or by-the-numbers for his standard,
the album seems pretty inspired as a whole. The fun and energetic riffs, healthy doses of
experimentation, and numerous noteworthy moments make the overall experience a memorable
one.
