Despite what people say, I find this album to be their best. Although the second half is not as interesting, this album is pretty good.

Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray is easily the worst album from Seether. The album begins with "Furcue", a decent but pretty uninteresting opener. It doesn't even compare to fantastic previous album openers "Gasoline" and "Because of Me". Singles "Here and Now" and "Country Song" are the easily the top two tracks on an album without many highlights. The former is a nice, slower song that actually uses a piano. It provides some nice variety. "Country Song" is also a unique and memorable song. However, much of the album just gets boring and forgettable. It bottoms out with "Roses" and "Forsaken", which are both fairly poor lyrically and don't do anything new or exciting. Seether would bounce back fairly well with 2014's Isolate and Medicate, but HOSBLTF remains an uninteresting album that doesn't demand repeated listens.

Ah, I remember the times when I used to have the original Xbox and played a few tracks off Karma & Effect every now and then; beforehand, I figured it was OK to actually like Seether since we were all younger, innocent, and nowhere near pessimistic. Even to this day, I still hear "Remedy" and "The Truth" in particular out of nostalgic pleasure. But to get back on the real subject here, Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray nearly bored me to tears because of its relative shallowness and a few of the really questionable choices made ("Country Song"). It'll become obvious right away that Shaun Morgan and his uneasy door of minions have entered a lighter and softer path, and it definitely wasn't a path worth walking through.
