4.0 excellent | BallsToTheWall | June 25th 11 | Draconian's most ambitious album to date. They've taken the formula laid out by Theatre of Tragedy/Third and the Mortal and improved it tenfold, never more so than on their latest album A Rose For The Apocalypse. Lisa and Anders are on top form here showing off their incredible dynamic. Lisa shows why she is one of the premier singers in modern metal with her angelic voice leading the charge as Anders growls with CTHULHU LIKE AGGRESSION. Songwriting has improved, taking an Opeth route with the soft to heavy parts. There are plenty of heavy riffs, dirge like in nature, killer guitar melodies, acoustic guitar and sparse violin arrangements popping in from time to time. Synths aren't overbearing yet provide enough of a positive impact to contribute to the grand atmosphere of this record. Draconian have shown why they are at the top of the pack in the gothic metal realm. This album fails to disappoint. GONNA PUT ON A RED VELVET DRESS, RUN OFF INTO THE FOREST AND DANCE WITH MY SHADOW'S REFLECTION DURING THE MOON'S HIGHEST PEAK.

3.5 great | Trey STAFF | July 6th 11 | This is definitely a more diverse and dynamic version of Draconian. The melodies aren't as simple & repetitive and the songs aren't nearly as riffy as previous albums. Also, the female vocals have stepped away from much of the 'goth' influence which actually provides even more contrast with the death vocals. It's definitely the first Draconian album that's going to make listeners pay attention and listen a few times before it really clicks.

1.0 awful | Cryogenix | June 27th 11 | This is just awful...not only for Draconian, but simply an awful album. The lyrics on Turning Season Within were magnificent, so great in fact even Shakespeare would pause to admire them. These lyrics are so cheap, so superficial I can't bear to read them twice. The riffs are dull, repetitive and there's nothing emotional about them. The occasional slow parts which just jump in without any forewarning feel totally out of place. I don't see how this album is doom metal at all, it's just simple drone metal. There's not a speck of emotion, even the clean vocals are bad. Though the main vocalist has a beautiful voice as always...the way she sings on this album sounds waaaaay too popish for me. The growls are uninspired which combined with the awful lyrics makes me skip them in some songs entirely sometimes. What a disappointment.
Addendum: Also, people like Hawks defending his opinion by stating that everyone who thinks differently is a retard also speaks volumes about whatever he likes (like this album for example).

3.0 good | Have you tried jamming Helcaraxe? CONTRIBUTOR | March 24th 17 | As far as I can tell this is their weakest album although i've yet to hear their debut. It's pretty solid overall but they do dip into rather generic melodic death/doom metal at points, and it doesn't help that this albums rather monolithic in length (almost 70 minutes). However it has some amazing moments that bring it from a weak 3/5 to a strong 3.5-4rEdit- izza 3.

3.5 great | xTheRoseRedx | August 27th 11 | Always been a fan of these guys. This album marks a good point for them. Each album has been great, defiantly one of the most depressing bands i know of. Great music, with a heart... Be it a rather sad one!

3.0 good | Voivod STAFF | July 3rd 11 | Unfortunately, this is a 3-3.5 (tops). In their previous album, there were songs that stood out of the bunch, but in here..... It is very difficult to pinpoint one or two, despite the fact that the production is perfect for the genre Draconian file under... The arrangements are pretty formulaic, I'm afraid...

3.0 good | renovatio786 | June 15th 11 | Musically, it sounds too much like Turning Season Within. Lyrically, it's lackluster and rather cheap. Draconian has finally made an album I'd rather not buy. Hopefully they make another one that is actually worth listening too. I'm still wondering how they got from the magnificence of Where Lovers Mourn to the utter "meh" of this album.
