When I picked up England Keep My Bones the first thing I heard was definitely maturity, musically and lyrically. Frank Turner is growing up and he just wants to sing about shit that he loves. It's a great album and it hits me hard whenever I hear it.

An endearing homage to the English land from which Turner hails, England Keep My Bones is a stunningly gratifying affair. The passion Frank Turner bears on his sleeve is steadily revealed through his memorable aphorisms, keenly relateable lyrics and powerful voice. r2011 is Mr. Turner's tool, to be manipulated as he pleases.

I've never been a big fan of Frank Turner up until this album. For the same reason so many love Turner's music, such as his penchant for rousing anthems and sloganeering and heart-on-sleeve lyrics, I found to be somewhat... annoying, I guess, for lack of a better term. But, for whatever reason, I like this. A lot. Maybe it's because I lowered my expectations after realizing I was probably never going to be a huge Turner fan, or maybe because he's just simply became a more diverse, risky songwriter, or maybe because he's taken a step back from the rash lyricism of Love, Ire & Song and has, dare I say it, matured. Or maybe it's because "I Am Disappeared" is such a bitchin song. I dunno.
