Despite being hated by most death metal purists, 'Illud Divinum Insanus' is actually a decent album with some variety and catchy riffs. It's only hated on because it's not much like Morbid Angel, aside from a few tracks.

This is by far the worst death metal album I've ever heard. This album being death metal's St. Anger is no understatement. From the opening sounds of the intro "Omni Potens" going into "Too Extreme!" you are in for one hell ride. Unfortunately for all you death metal fans I do not mean a hell ride that is enjoyable. This album is a hell ride of the description of being trapped in the stereotypical Bible Hell except you're getting your anus impaled by wooden spiked dildos for all eternity. When you heard an album for the first time like Altars of Madness or Diabolical Summoning, you felt it would get better and better after the first song and albums such as those deserve the hype that they have received. Illud Divinum Insanus is an album were you just feel the songs are getting worse and worse as each song ends. "Radikult" takes the award for stupidest and worst song on the whole album.

Horrible drums - is this St. Anger? - weird af industrial additions - as weird as Korn adding dubstep to their formula - and, most importantly: uninspired compositions. Ain't that horrible, but ain't good shit either. 1.9

Hmm, how about we just pretend this album does not exist? I am utterly confused by what exactly the members were thinking when putting together the techno drum-beat songs whoch are all unlistenable except for Radikult which was «only» awful. On the other hand the actual DM songs on here are either decent or good, not MA amazing good, but enjoyable. Overall. What.

I understand what Morbid Angel was trying to go for with this album, but it clearly sounds like an attempt to utilize a new musical influence without first being aware of what makes it interesting. The result is a strange mish-mash of ideas and mediocre lyrics. Better luck next time guys.

There are a few good songs here, but they're not great and they're not any better than the good songs on Heretic, and there are fewer of them. And getting to them requires navigating through some truly awful, inexplicable almost legitimately comically bad stuff. The bad is so bad, it's actually like some Ziltoid B-sides without any of the tongue-in-cheek-ness. Hopefully Pete Sandoval will rejoin the band just out of fury and pummel them back into, heck, even mediocrity would be great.

Morbid Angel went extremely experimental on this album and the end result was that virtually
everyone hated it. Compared to their old stuff, there is no comparison, the old stuff
completely wins the competition. Now I will say that this album was not completely a
failure by Morbid Angel. Yes, a lot of the songs were crap, but there are also songs that I
enjoyed quite a bit: I will say the songs I enjoyed were definitely the least techno
sounding and more classic sounding. Overall, the album was not so good but Morbid Angel did
not completely loose it.

There's nothing wrong with branching out, in fact I think that industrial inflected death metal is an interesting idea. But... Morbid Angel is just not good at it. At all. Half of this album sounds like they listened to some really crappy EBM and tried to mimic it, while the other half is just tired, generic death metal that they've done so, so much better in the past. And then there's the horrible Manson ode Radikult, which presumably was written with the aim of making the lyrics on Manson's last album seem thought-provoking... I really would like to say that it's not as bad as everyone is saying it is, but this is pretty much shit.
