For a 5 song EP this is an incredible piece of work. Got Me Wrong, Brother, and Am I Inside are all top notch material by Jerry and the gang. Only complaint is that its too short.

Sap works well as a bridge between Alice in Chain's inconsistent debut Facelift and their masterpiece Dirt. The 5 songs, however, offer little to be excited about. The 2 openers Brother and Got me Wrong are excellent laid-back acoustic tracks with amazing vocals, but the 2 following songs (despite vocals from Chris Cornell and Ann Wilson) are forgettable. The final track, Love Song, is more of a joke song. If anything, Sap does show the band improving their songwriting skills, which would be on full display later that year.

This EP serves as a nice transition point from the band's first outing and the albums that would come to follow. Acoustic music meshes so well with these guys, and through this EP it would become a pretty integral part of Alice in Chains' over all sound. The inclusion of probably one of the band's most avant-garde compositions in "Love Song" is a nice stray from conventional Alice.
