No Devolucion is so much better than anything I could have hoped from Thursday. Never
in my wildest dreams would I have thought that the band that was the soundtrack to me
entering my mid teens with Full Collapse would now be part of the soundtrack to me
entering my mid 20s but here we are.

The best thing about this album is how much more confident they sound (Geoff in particular) compared to Common Existence. They just sound like they know without a doubt that this is a spectacular album and they don't give a fuck if you disagree.

This marks a very large progression of Thursday. Unlike bands that fail to cohesively mix genres, Thursday has impressively fused ambient, post-rock instrumentation along with post-hardcore atmosphere, topped with Geoff's heartfelt and improved vocals. They really have proved themselves to be one of the pillars of post-hardcore.

It took me a couple of listens to realize how good this album is. It's perfect for sleeping to, but not in a bad way. Every song is captivating and ends up producing a visual image in my mind that I only experience when listening to bands like Tool and Radiohead.

An amazing swansong if I ever heard one. With as many times as I've tried listening to Full Collapse and failed to love it (or even like it really) I came into this expecting absolutely nothing; I was entirely blown away. While at first I was a little irked that the vocals felt like the were pushed through the same filter that Chino Moreno uses, but I quickly got past that and was able to really enjoy the album (and maybe the band) for what it is. 3.9/5

Atmosphere is the theme here and lots of it. You can feel all of the personal emotion and effort put into this album. I'm not sure if Thursday knew this would be their final album, but you have to wonder. I imagine a lot of people struggle for something profound to say with their last words and Thursday did just that. The only difference is that they put those words to some amazing music.

Dark, murky, atmospheric and with a poignant message. Every time the last screams of "stay true" echo away I am left with the feeling that the ground has ruptured from underneath my feet but I somehow remain standing. It's like finishing "King Park" in Wildlife or finishing a crazy book which puts the reader through a series of different emotions and the last page has just hit home. This is catharsis of a musical kind.

For me, Thursday actually sound like that band I had always heard of them being on their No Devolucion - that it, an actually good band. No offense intended, but up until this I had always found the band's music to be pretty mediocre at best - Geoff Rickly ever whispering into the mic on purpose, no drive in the music, just kinda 'blah blah'. Melodies swoon here, though, and the atmosphere that No Devolucion is able to conjure is quite impressive; oh yeah, and all of the songs are pretty good too. No Devolucion is one of those albums that will make even the career-long naysayer a believer.

I have always been open to the progress Thursday makes as a group, and I was no different for this album. I honestly thought it would take me longer to appreciate this, but I'm already starting to love it immensely. Giving it a 4, but this rating will likely go up in the next couple weeks.
