4.5 superb | Outnumbered | June 19th 11 | Vintage Symphony X, and there's nothing wrong with that. SX sticks to their signature formula and they still deliver. This is quite better than Paradise Lost, however. Vocals are still top-notch and the soloing is phenomenal. You'll experience nothing new with this album if you've heard this band before, but with bands like SX, that's okay. Favorite Track: When All Is Lost

3.0 good | lessermaster | June 13th 11 | A step up from Paradise Lost. There are songs that provide the best Symphony X has to offer (Iconoclast, The End of Innocence, When All is Lost, Reign in Madness). Unfortunately the rest of the album blends together a little too much, but I like the direction they are taking here. The album is very heavy, sometimes bordering on too much (Heretic). It's almost a blend of V and Paradise Lost; I just wish there was a bit more V in there. One important note is Michael Romeo's performance. This album is his crowning achievement in my opinion.

3.1 good | Erwann S. STAFF | January 18th 22 | Progpowersympho metal with enough meaty riffs and not too much power metal vocals (phew!) make this one a quite appreciable progpower record.

3.0 good | GamamJ | June 17th 20 | Ahhh, how sad. Potential in spades, in fact, in the start, when basically all I was hearing was thrashy heavy riffs like on Paradise Lost and neoclassical shreddy madness, my first thought was YES! That Symphony X is easily my favourite, however, not when it entails them having lost so to speak all of their creativity and putting out a 1.5hr album of almost the exact same stuff! So unfortuante.. Still a solid album though, as I love heavy wanky stuff. Just disappointing.

1.0 awful | EasterInTheBatcave | January 1st 16 | Watching paint dry is more entertaining. This is an incredibly boring metal record. The only thing 'progressive' thing about it is that the longer it goes on, your desire to smash your speakers with a crowbar will get progressively stronger.

3.5 great | peartnoy | June 29th 11 | Theses guys take so much time to release an album, you would think it would be better than this. It worked for Paradise Lost but here the band plays it completely safe.

3.0 good | A7XEric | June 22nd 11 | What a huge letdown. The potential for some cool machine-esque sounds and layers to really add atmosphere to this man vs machine album went straight down the drain. Most songs sound similar with only a few standout tracks. This is Symphony X simply going through the motions. Putting out an average album from a band that normally delivers brilliance just isn't acceptable.

3.5 great | dante1991 | June 22nd 11 | A step up from Paradise Lost, Symphony X strike back with another brilliant prog/power metal release. With songs less forced but just as heavy and catchy, Iconoclast is a strong album with a good vocal delivery and solid instrumentation. Fans of Paradise Lost with enjoy this, as well as fans of their older material. "When All Is Lost" harks back to the album "V", and is a definate highlight.

3.5 great | Xenorazr | June 20th 11 | Fundamentally a spiritual sibling to the superior Paradise Lost, but still a more or less competent release. Too much of Iconoclast does admittedly blend together rather much, but the band are still in great form (especially vocalist Russel Allen). Many of the best moments come during the solos and climaxes, leading to a release that culminates well in each individual track. Taken as a whole, Iconoclast won't do anything to significantly shake up how people view the band. Probably one of the group's weaker efforts, but that's far from a bad thing.

4.5 superb | MarkvandenBerg | June 19th 11 | Better than Paradise Lost. These guys are so good at what they do and Russell Allen must be the envy of every progressive metal band (ie dream theater)
