I know most people like DBM1 the most but this album for some reason has just stuck with me. The guitar parts in the songs are momentous and technical and catchy all at the same time. I find myself headbanging and then singing along to my hearts content when Jonny's parts come on. In my opinion this is the magnum opus to DGD's amazing career. Favorite Tracks: Thug City, Edler Goose, Pounce Bounce

Didn't get the 3's for this...I feel it's one of the best albums of our time. It took maybe half a dozen listens to really get hooked but honestly I've probably listened at least a couple hundred times. I rarely listen to music more than maybe 10-15 times through even a good album.rThe layers...so many layers. I was finding new things even six months after listening. Every musician is on top of his game, the songs are so well written, production is outstanding, the flow of the back half of the album is perfect. DTBM was excellent, but they combined that more experimental sound of Happiness and the heaviness of the first album perfectly. I have no idea how they can follow up on this one.rI will say after DTBM and Emarosa I didn't really like DGD or Happiness, but after DTBM2 I went back and listened to those albums and fell in love with those two, as well as Kurt's voice. So not a snob for one singer or the other. Just love all four albums.

It takes several listens, but it grows on you, and every song has something that makes it special. Best tracks: Elder goose, Purple reign, Heat seeking ghost of sex, Swan Soup. rWorst tracks: Need Money, Blue Dream. (But they're still ok)

Make no mistake guys, Jon's scream is ALL studio work. Listened to him track even at Interlace, Chris Crummet and I agreed he was the worst screamer we had ever worked with. Jinny no longer belts out high notes and is content with lazily lofting through this CD. If he is no longer the high point, then what is? Sure, the guitar work is crazy, there's some rapping, but DBM 2 falls way short of the original. Not a fan.

Aight, Jonny's back, and he sounds mad good with his R&B-like delivery. His teamwork with Mess is cool, although he's clearly - and by far - the most talented of the two. The guitar work is properly excellent - some of the best of the whole swancore movement, making for an engaging listen made of micro-bursts of exuberant energy.

In a nutshell, Downtown Battle Mountain II is one big reunion that was all too inevitable. Some people in the world don't think Dance Gavin Dance is powerful enough without the overshadowing Jonny Craig, so for this record, he was brought back alongside the other members whom have contributed to DGD's debut album. Even for a sequel to the first Downtown Battle Mountain, it tries a little too hard to rely on what these boys accomplished during the previous chapter, while Jon Mess around this time both failed and succeeded in regards to improving his screams. I would've preferred a stylistic follow-up to Happiness, really, but on its own, Downtain Battle Mountain II is quite a fun present to have and to hold. This is a slightly better offering than Acceptance Speech, to be honest.

Meh. Jonny did amazing things on Whatever I Say Is Royal Ocean, but after that he killed DGD with his drug use, etc... I hate his lyrics as well. He's an amazingly talented singer, but he's a bit of a douche. The real problem with this album is where Jonny and Jon write about sex, drugs, and how awesome DGD is... and it just loses all meaning. Almost the same as DTBM, DTBM2 is once again something Jonny could have used to fix DGD, but didn't.

Overall, I enjoyed the album. I can, however, tell that Jonny Craig and Jon Mess were mostly beholden to their label with this album; if the following line in "Spooks" doesn't explicitly state that, I don't know what does: "capitalize when you dumb it down." With that in mind, I feel the rest of the album can be seen as an obvious ploy to keep the new listeners they gained during the band's time with Kurt Travis. Having been a fan since the first Battle Mountain, I have seen a new breed of DGD fans who less enjoy the band's complex, metal-influenced instrumentation and Jonny Craig's cryptic lyrics, and more readily understand Travis' simpler, funky songs about girls. That said, Dance Gavin Dance did not entirely let me down with Battle Mountain Part 2 (except for the beginning of "Thug City." Seriously, that did not need to be there), and I await their next offering optimistic, but with a healthy skepticism that they may continue on the dumbed-down path.

This album deserves a 3. I enjoy Mess's work on this just. Do not love the instrumentation or Craig; it's good, but not great. Craig has gotten lazy on his vocal performance. To sum it up: the delivery in this album is not as intense/passionate as DBM 1. You'd be a sceenie weenie to rate this a 4-5.

Though this is a wonderful album, and surpasses the original Downtown Battle Mountain in
nearly every way, it still doesn't reach the levels of their ST or Happiness, due to the
fact that they rely on way too many generic DGD gimmicks. Be it the guitar riffs we've heard
a billion times before, every Jonny Craig melody that sounds the same by now, or just the
constant attempts at funk that has been rusted over since Happiness, this is a step down for
the band. Not that it's been without its improvements. Jon Mess still does an amazing job in
terms of lyrics, and has greatly improved in his vocal ability, and there are still tons of
standout passages and tracks that make this worth listening to (i.e. Will Swan rapping in
"Spooks")
Overall, while this is a recommended listen to any DGD fan, this might just be the sign of a
decline of a great [INSERT MACBOOK JOKE HERE!!!] band, but if it is, it's definitely with
grace.
