I find this to be quite enjoyable. The new vocalist is solid, and the fact that Nick, Lech and Ernie are still in the band still give me that nostalgia Allegiance does. Great lead riffs, albeit about 10 too many breakdowns in the album. However, a solid release.

Yawn...is it 2005? Seriously, after such a hiatus I was expecting something momentous. It could be worse, it's an okay album for what it's worth...but at the end of the day it's not worth much. Enjoyed a few riffs (King of Thieves, before the 3 minute mark) but other than a few bright moments it was uninspiring. Riff riff breakdown riff stacked vox riff breakdown riff...seriously?

It may be generic, but the songs are so good that you don't care. Despite excess breakdowns, rthe riffs and vocal hooks are some of the catchiest ever put on a deathcore album

While Allegiance is an oft-underrated work of hyper-melodic deathcore, sounding like what it is in effect the best of The Black Dahlia Murder with commendable breakdowns, the ire directed at Instinct is a bit more understandable. The songwriting is still solid, as they know how to pen a melodic riff and know their way around catchy or just plain heavy breakdowns. The problems lie in its production, which is far too clean, its vocals, which have taken a hit since the debut and do not do the whole layering thing well at all, and the notion that this record is essentially just discount Allegiance, having an all-too-similar flow to the record amidst the similar songwriting. There's some good stuff here, no doubt, as the middle of the tracklist will show you, but its homogenous nature really doesn't help in what is already seen as a homogeneous style to begin with. Needless to say, if you're going to hear a record by these dudes, it should be their debut LP.

An awful record made even worse by the lengthy break between it and its predecessor-- which, really, wasn't any good either. Instinct is just another in a long line of breakdown-centric, lazily-written metal albums, none of which are worthwhile.

Too few great moments within a majority of the songs with the rest being nearly bland, make this album somewhat of a failure. The once memorable riffs and breakdowns that Allegiance was known for are nowhere to be found. There's potential, but it's going to take much effort for this band to find it.

Some people just don't like change. I do believe that is the major reason for most of the hate ABRB is getting for this album. After waiting 5 years and changing lineups a bit, no one knew what was going to happen. I agree with the review. They did they best they could with what they had, and the result is nothing amazing yet something that's not bad at all. Some consider their music to be generic, while there are some things on this album that disprove that. The use of instrumentals such as "Triumph" and "Tribulations" give a break from the heavy and help the album trasition smoothly. My favorite part of the album is the opening to "Echoes of an Era". It epiotmizes the upbeat energy that ABRB showcases.

I feel like this is an important album to me. Important in the sense that four years ago, my sophomore year of high school, i would have loved this. Allegiance was awesome. But i just cant listen to this. So fucking bland and boring. And dear god the breakdowns. So yeah, thanks sputnik.

Huge dissappointment. I think the production actually got worse, especially guitar-wise. The new vocalists "hardcore yell" sounds stupid. However, there are SOME good riffs, and the guitar leads have improved, but overall this is worse than allegiance.

seriously ABRB should understand that this is not 2005,when breakdowns and cacthy riffs made
a record sell. Now listeners like u and me have grown over that and we need creativity and a
serious structure in a song. so i didnt like it, and if u question why?, go listen to BOS
"the discovery",u will get the answer.
Afterall 4-5 years man! this should have been a bomb.
However for listeners new to this Genre it might prove to be a treat.

Didn't like it as much as I did Allegiance. Alot are in happy with how a band has changed (that's really no reason to dislike a band in the firstplace) but this band hasn't changed at all. It's kinda funny really....it seems like a band with two original members and then 3 other dudes trying to capture what that old band had before. I wonder who would win: this 'new lineup' or an ABRB cover bad in a cover band contest. Seriously...the guitarist who made this sound pretty much bailed. Yea he wrote like...2 songs but the rest suck. New riffs sound fun but not for an ABRB album. Try should change the name of this albums artist and quit fucking around and actually put out a real ABRB album. Oh and the piano interlude? WTF pouring reign was better and that was the worst track off allegiance.

This is trash. They had FIVE YEARS to improve. They guitarist showed some potential but decided to stick with his shitty boring chugga chugga riffs. That crap gets old after one song and he does it for the entire duration of the record. The new vocalist is okay but it's nothing we haven't all heard before. Lech's drumming is pretty nice as always, but again, we've all heard much better. This record is shit and NOBODY should waste a penny on it. In fact nobody should waste time writing a review for it. It doesn't deserve a review!
