Considered by many to be the best live rock n roll recording of the rock music era, Live At Leeds by the Who is loud, brash, violent rock n roll at it's best. Far from who the band were in the studio, on L&L The Who create music that is truly alive and spectacular. It's hard to imagine this much explosive power coming from only three musicians and a singer onstage, but from the opening number to the closing track this album is an almost physical assualt on the body and senses. Magnificiant, bold, and astounding in everyway, I cannot recommend any live recording higher.

Some people may never give a live album a 5, but in my opinion this album merits nothing less than a 5. The Who has great studio albums such as Who's Next, The Who Sell Out, etc., but live is really where they shined. The pure energy and power of their performances is astounding, which is why they are, in my humble opinion, both the greatest hard rock band of all time and the greatest live band of all time.

When I first bought the album, I was a bit skeptical of it, fearing that it wouldn't live up to my expectations, it being the "best live album of all time" and whatnot. Dear god, did it meet my expectations. Any idea of being of the Who "power pop" vanishes completely in a live environment. Bursts of juicy, overdriven guitar goodness dominate almost every track in here. Not to mention the best rhythm section in rock music ever letting loose (and by the Who's standards...well, you get my meaning. And I hear that wasn't a particularly great evening.
Word of advice: Get the edition with the whole of "Tommy" in it. With this, the more, the merrier. There isn't a single bad track on here.

Hm...best live album ever? Maybe. But even then it has absolutely magical moments, in which The Who all "connect," for lack of a less cliche phrase. Towshend's guitar pierces eardrums and Moon's destroys his drums while Entwistle keeps excellent bass lines underneath the chaos. Roger Daltrey has never sounded better.
