This album was quite a surprise. I have to admit that I initially thought that Tommy was the weakest link in
a band of master musicians. After listening to this album though, I have quickly realized the scope of
Tommy's musical vision. His attention to detail shines on every song. Also he has an amazing ability to
create such a diverse set of songs, each unique, and yet together making a beautiful and cohesive
monster of an ablum.

Kept my attention from start to finish. The various sounds presented in this album make it clear that Thomas Giles is a superb musician, metal or not.

its not what i was expecting but it was actually really good. a little mellow, but all in all a pretty great album for a solo project

A total mixed bag: some good ("Scared"), some awful ("Hamilton Anxiety Scale"), and a bunch in between. You'll probably find a track or two you like, but you'll also find a couple you don't. Proceed with caution.

Pulse is Tommy Rogers' official debut as a solo musician, although technically speaking, Giles predates the album by seven years. This record's 11 tracks tell us one short and sweet message: Between the Buried and Me's frontman doesn't have the audacity to be pigeonholed forever. His way of utilizing quite a number of different sounds is hardly messy, and the very same can primarily be said about Rogers' calculating vocal performance. This release seldom loses track of what this young, commendable man had in mind, so everything thrown at the listener is only rarely a drawback.

Draughts of ineffective experimentation are mitigated by such poignant odes as "Scared" and "Mr. Bird," whose soft palettes reverberate like chromatic pulses in the dark.

Sometimes this gets so far off that it annoys me. He likes to fuck around with vocal affects way too much also, but it shows he knows what hes doing and hes proven hes a varied musician, but the songwriting on here is really lacking.

Such a great album. Thomas Giles has such a way to balance everything with different genres (much like BTBAM), to create one coherent piece of work that anyone can love. He's got his shizzle together.

Don't read into the "average" rating too far, Tommy Rogers is a talented kid. If anything, Pulse finally proves this to anyone who really doubted him: playing every instrument on the record aptly, spanning every genre under his little progressive umbrella and self-producing the whole affair takes a lot of chutzpah and talent - nobody should question this. His songwriting choices, however, are certainly subject to scrutiny; panicked harsh vocals over recycled club beats, dissonant polyrhythmic intros with little to no cohesion and half-rate metalcore jams are hardly the creative vehicle Rogers seemed to have been hoping for. Sure, songs like 'Sleep Shake' and 'Hypoxia' are obvious Pink Floyd-esque highlights and Rogers definitely gets his fifteen minutes of fame in a band where he's not the weakest link (in fact, he's the only link!), Pulse is lacking direction and feels like it maybe needed a little more time in the oven before mama bear squeezed this one out.
