If you like Adele like I do, it will be hard not to like this sophomore album. However, like many artists, these tracks do not for me add anything new to the Adele repertoire. In fact, the rawness of the her first album (19) in my opinion did more of what she does best: pure vocal power. With the added hooks, beats, instrumentation and production of the newer album, it kind of distracts/detracts a bit from the great old vocal arrangements she's capable of. Still great but just a tad underwhelming.

Fuck, this is terrible. Every time I hear "Someone Like You" or "Rolling in the Deep" on the radio I hate Adele more and more. Shitty, bland, boring songs, with a failed attempt at masking how fucking mundane they are by using Adele's shitty, oversinging, whining voice.

The reason why this album sold 6 trillion or so copies was because this album did what people wanted, and it did it while exceeding everyone's expectations at what it could have done.

I've never seen the appeal of this woman, to be honest. As demonstrated on her 2011 studio album, 21, English singer-songwriter Adele manages to showcase a generally alluring, emotive vocal performance... and nothing else. The record's 11 tracks suffer mostly from overcooked production values and being lyrically repetitious. Also, whilst a lot of the songs aren't inherently terrible, some tunes on here prove to be more forgettable than others (*cough* "Turning Tables" *cough*). By and large, 21 just doesn't warrant all the hype it's been receiving. Angel recommends: "Rolling in the Deep," "Don't You Remember," "Set Fire to the Rain," and "One and Only". On a side note, Adele's version of "Lovesong" is inferior to The Cure's.

Cool. Is one word to describe Adele?s album 21 that was released in 2011. Adele plays soul, brit pop, and pop. On May 5th, 1988 Adele was born in England and her birth sign is Taurus. The Spice Girls and Pink influenced her choice of career. She has released five albums before 21 was released. r?I heard you dreams came true? is my favorite line in Someone Like You because it is kind of hopeful and while put to a sad meaning in the song. I think that the song Turning Tables is a great song because it is slow, calm, and relaxing. The song Rolling in the Deep is also a great song because I think it has a great melody to it. Also, Set Fire to the Rain is great because it is slow then kind of gets faster and louder. I think that listening to this album is like sitting on a beach and listening to the calming wave sounds. Lastly, I don?t like the songs Lovesong and One and Only because to me I think they are kind of weird. rI think that overall this is a great album and Adele is a great artist. I think that the lyrics of the song and Adele?s voice makes this album amazing. The song Set Fire to the Rain compares to the song Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys because both songs get slower, faster, softer, and louder. But overall I think this was an amazing album.r

Adele's 2009 debut album, 19, was a Grammy-winning smash hit that revealed the British singer/songwriter's knack for bittersweet soul and folk-infused love songs that brought to mind an infectious mix of Dusty Springfield and Terry Callier. The album earned her a ton of fans, and interest was high for the inevitable follow-up. In many ways, her sophomore album, the similarly age-appropriate-titled 21, is a continuation of the sounds and themes Adele was working with on 19. She is still the bluesy pop diva with a singer/songwriter's soul and seemingly bottomless capacity for heartbreak. If the tastefully organic production and overabundance of well-known co-writers come off a bit too on-the-nose in terms of delivering to fan expectations, then the best thing the album does is to showcase Adele's titanic vocal ability, which -- more than a few times on 21 -- is simply spine-tingling. Last time around we got the gauzy, Callier-esque folk-soul ballad "Daydreamer" to slowly draw us into the album; here, Adele immediately injects us with the propulsive gospel fever-blues anthem "Rolling in the Deep." While the track certainly owes a heavy debt to the punk-blues of Beth Ditto and the Gossip, it is also ridiculously sexy and one of the best singles of any decade -- and, unfortunately, completely sets the bar way too high for everything else on 21. Which isn't to say that 21 is bad; on the contrary, tracks like the similarly blues-inflected Ryan Tedder co-write "Rumour Has It" and the old-school-style soul cut "He Won't Go" are terrifically catchy, booty-shaking numbers, and exactly the kind of songs you want and expect from Adele. That said, if Adele's voice goes on forever here, so apparently does her appetite for bad relationship mojo. An inordinate amount of the material on 21 is about yearning for lost love. In fact, the centerpiece of the album, the mega-ballad showstopper "Take It All" -- co-written by her "Chasing Pavements" partner Francis White -- begins with Adele proclaiming "Didn't I give it all?" Delivered starkly at first with Adele set against simple piano accompaniment and later backed by a gospel choir, it's an instant-classic sort of song in the tradition of "The Rose," "And I Am Telling You I Am Not Going," and "All by Myself" that could stand over the years as a career landmark for the singer and a cathartic moment for fans who identify with their idol's Pyrrhic lovelorn persona. For others, over the course of the album, that persona and the insistence of track after track of heartbreak can get a bit alienating. Ultimately, however, Adele does give us her all on 21, and for now that is enough.
