| 4.5 superb | scarecrow0114 | June 21st 06 | I think that 'Gateways to Annihilation' was a big step away from Morbid Angel's past albums. They did an excellent job on keeping it hardcore, as heard on such tracks as 'Summoning Redemption' and 'Ageless Still I am'. They also took time to lay down more technical tracks as well. Trying to learn some of these songs such as 'At One With Nothing' was a challenge because like I said, some songs are more technical. Instead of staying hard on the high hat, snare and powerful double bass drums, it seems like Pete Sandoval discovered the rest of his set, which makes it harder for people like me who like to try and keep up. If you have the chance, I would recommend this album highly.

| 4.5 superb | branflakes911 | April 15th 11 | This is clearly the album Morbid Angel were trying to release since Covenant. The riffs are massive, the tone is otherworldly and the solos are, as always, incomparable. I won't say this is their best, but it's the pinnacle of their sludgy sound, their songwriting and brutality.

| 5.0 classic | ChoppedInHalf | November 9th 07 | This could quite possibly be the most underrated death metal album ever released. During the Steve Tucker era of Morbid Angel, I'd always hear people going off about how it's not Morbid Angel anymore, but I've never heard a single valid explanation of how he didn't live up to David Vincent's legacy. The riffs are very "heavy", while retaining the distinctive Morbid Angel vibe, on top of using detuned 7 strings. The bass is very tight and prominent, and Pete Sandoval is much more versatile than usual, varying his blast beats and incorporating new drumming techniques. Steve Tucker's vocals are very unique, and I'm not sure why more people don't give him any credit. It's like he's perfected the "death metal growl", added clarity, and fueled it with testosterone, creating an individual tone that I've never heard before. While technicality seems to be a secondary priority on this particular album, the band's synergy can't be denied. You don't typically get a lot of variations and turning points in the heavier death metal albums, but every track has its unique unpredictable moments. The only track I can't stand to listen to is Secured Limitations. They added a poorly attempted high-pitched vocal track and copious amounts of tongue-in-cheek blasphemy that absolutely ruin the song. The only other thing I can say is that if you can't understand the lyrics, go to Dark Lyrics and read them all. They're very impressive and come together just as well as the songs themselves.

| 4.0 excellent | mandan | November 20th 14 | With a dark atmosphere, bone-crushing riffs and impressive leads, Gateways to Annihilation follows up Formulas Fatal to the Flesh quite well.

| 5.0 classic | REANIMATED | December 10th 24 | The blueprint for like 50% of my favourite death metal albums released in the 21st century. No album can truly match the impeccable vibes, psychy solos, and monolithically heavy riffs on here.

| 3.5 great | Grungil | November 29th 23 | When it comes to Morbid Angel on Death-Doom-mode, this is my favorite album by the band. The guitar work by Trey and Rutan is stellar and Sandoval play some of his more innovative drumming here too.
Favorite songs: "Ageless Still I Am" and "At One with Nothing".

| 2.5 average | Santa Koopa | March 12th 22 | despite one of the best artworks oat, what domination and formulas sought out to accomplish in watering down their sound has been most completed in gateways. its in one ear and out the other-slow, plodding, like a limp cannibal corpse, this one goes out to all the doomers out there-thanks for making angel make a crappy album u suck. last couple tracks amp it up a little bit and end the album with a considerably better note

| 3.5 great | GamamJ | May 31st 20 | Morbid Angel's best since Covenant. A great record that takes what one finds on Domination and Formulas, so simple heavy DM and techy weird structures/riffs respectively, and combines them. What does that sound like? That's right. Early MA. What does early MA do? Rule.

| 3.0 good | Arditi | January 18th 20 | Potentially their most outright heavy album. "At One with Nothing" crushes.

| 4.0 excellent | Risodo | February 6th 18 | Regular, predictable and with clear failures in the production and the elaboration of the structure of the songs. The atmosphere and darkness delivered by the album is quite valid, showing us a more experimental and perverse side of the band.

| 1.5 very poor | mark7477 | September 11th 10 | I guess it's more of the same 'ol death metal formula it doesn't really share the fresh excitement that convenant had.

| 2.5 average | gutturalmaster | January 28th 10 | Can't even compare to their older releases; this album lacks in many ways. Songs are too slow and boring; attempts to pick up the pace sound weak; the sound engineer messed up teriibly on the EQs, resulting in weak drums tracks (Pete's playing isn't given justice). The only good thing about this album is the vocals, which are very well done, with good gutturals.

| 3.0 good | Farkus911 | November 23rd 08 | Another example of how morbid angel will just kinda change styles willy nilly, coming from formulas, their most abstract and arguably heavist album they have written, they go slow. But even morbid angel slow songs are good (most of the time) honestly this reminds me alot of the Metallica's black album. Metallica follow up 1988's And Justice For All... with a really simple stream lines aproach, focused more on the synergy of the band and the songs on a whole, rather than focusing on individual instruments. Now i happen to loathe the black album, i think its garbage, but it works here for morbid, maily because its still REALLY heavy. It allianates alot of the more brutal death metal fans but i dont care haha this is sick and really fun to listen to so if you dont like it bite me!
