4.5 superb | YouAreMySilence | November 5th 08 | This is so much more then just pop punk, hell I'm not much of a pop punk fan but this record makes me want to listen to every pop punk album to and maybe find I cd like this (I stopped at All Time Low).
Maybe to its core it it pop punk but isnt cheese to its core just moldy milk? But yet it still tastes delictable. Filled with technical guitarwork , and I mean acually "technical guitarwork" not just "my god distortion in pop punk!", unique and eerie vocals and lyrics that are acually very poetic making this "pop punk" release a very underrated and misunderstood masterpiece.
Yes there is some fails as it comes to lyrics i.e Promise ("'Cause I wanna be with you/ cause I wanna leave with you/ So come on and tell me right now if you're into me") But he does prove himself as a poet in songs like in The Charity Of Saint Elizabeth (" The message in the water/ the kids are going home tonight/ I know the voice of orderly all too well/ Call the parents on their cell phones/ You see, they need to get get here right now, because there is an angel in the place of the boy next door.") and almost everyother song.
One of the most fantastic things about this album is the variety, very catchy songs i.e Cloudy, Ten Ways To Impress (which is one of the best pop punk songs ever written) and some intensly creepy tunes i.e Gardens, The Charity Of Saint Elizabeth ( which has one of the heaviest breakdowns you will hear in a "pop punk album.)
I wouldnt call it pop punk, nor alt rock, nor post punk; lets call it...
Post Alt. Pop! You know now terrible it would be if that catches on...
