I'm still trying to figure out what exactly people are getting out of these lyrics. I mean, with most death metal albums, even if the lyrics are crap, you can see why people would relate to them if they're going through tough times. This... what does this do for anyone?

This is an epic album. The reviews don't do the band justic and it's pretty pitiful that they felt that way. I'm glad that the users are giving thier honest opinions on the album. I want more Universum and I want it now! I would appreciate it if they included a track in a new album entitled "Metal Gigolo" or anything with "Gigolo" in the title. Maybe that could be the album title?

I think the reviewer is not giving the band a decent listen and has jumped to conclusions too quickly. I have listened to the album several times and can't fault it. I do agree that the vocals at times are a bit too screechy, but it's not long-lived and isn't a big deal. On the whole, it's a decent album. If you're on the fence about this one, listen for yourself and make up your own mind and don't be a sheep and take the reviewer's advice on this. I think it's pretty funny that although a crap review was done, it's up there in ratings! lol! Get PWNed Jared! LOL!

Universum - Mortuus Machina: For anyone who enjoys Scar Symmetry will get a kick out of this album. Each tracks sounds different from the last, but almost all the tracks sound absolutely incredible. Guest vocals are done by Christian Alvestam, so you definitely hear some Scar Symmetry influence. Speaking of vocals, this album has some of the best vocals I've heard in... hmmm... forever. The production value has also increased greatly since Leto Destinatus. Hard to pass up for anyone who enjoys top-notch Melodic Death Metal. Notable tracks: Fractured Archetype, Aeon Displacement, Morte Noir, Blank Infinity - 9.5/10

I took this advice above, well worth the time - Universum are an absolute killer band and Mortuus Machina rates as one of the best albums of 2010/11 imo! Seriously awesome album people. If you are into modern melodic metal, take the time to give this album a few listens... I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, I certainly was... m/

Christian Älvestam, I've never liked any of the bands he's been in where he's used clean vocals (eg. Scar Symmetry, Miseration, Solution .45). When I heard that he was making a guest appearance on 'Mortuus Machina' I have to say, I expected the album to take a hit and be absolutely crap. I put my hands up though, the vocals aren't that bad on this album. The cleans are only on a few songs and that helps the album overall as it gives it a bit of variety. Even the song with the power metal style vocals isn't too bad and I'm not a fan of those style vocals at all. As for the musicianship, it's of a high standard. There's no one song that really stands out, mainly because each track on this album is of an excellent quality. I'd even go as far as stating 'Mortuus Machina' is one of the stronger melo-death albums of 2010.
