| 3.5 great | jmal00 | November 16th 20 | Gave this album another listen and it has some amazingly high peaks, like the title track most notably. Problem is the album is kinda boring in spots too. Overall a great experience but nothing more.

| 4.0 excellent | Robbit | July 9th 17 | GUTTER BALLET is a mature and confident album that successfully moves Savatage forward into the realm of progressive metal. While
HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING had one foot planted in the past, it also found them dabbling with more ambitious neo-classical ideas.
Produced and entirely co-written with Paul O'Neill, this album is a brave step forward towards a more dynamic, more musical sound
that utilizes their metal tendencies in a more sparing and balanced manner. Some fans argue that HOTMK was the beginning of their
shift towards progressive metal, but this album is truly that transitional record as it seems more fully committed towards broadening
their sonic palette.
The ever shifting tone and themes throughout the record provide a great deal of variety to the record, but also makes it a seem a bit
unfocused at times. For that reason, I've always thought that GUTTER BALLET was just a hair short from being on par with HALL OF
THE MOUNTAIN KING or STREETS. Still, it is an excellent album overall and one that continues to earn my respect in the years that
have passed since it's release.

| 4.0 excellent | Fernando Alves | July 28th 11 | Gutter Ballet, Edge of Thorns and Hall of the Mountain King are my Savatage absolute favourites. Very interesting record with memorable songs like the title track, When The Crowds Are Gone, The Unholy and Summer's Rain. This record was a turning point in their career.

| 5.0 classic | JimMatheos | November 11th 10 | The first time you listen a band is always very special 'cause you don't know what you will find. At first, with the killer riffing in "Of Rage and War" and the desperate Jon Oliva shouts (perfect for the lyrics) I think woa! what a tremendous such trash metal band (bay area sound). But then, a delicate piano introduce one of the best metal, progressive, symphonic or rock songs ever written: "Gutter Ballet". That was I ever was looking for, how to combine the power of hard rock and the beauty or classic prog rock (like Opeth in XXI Century). "Temptation Revelation" is a piano piece that introduce the best ballad written for the Oliva brothers, "When the Crowds Are Gone", with a guitar solo that Chris probably is playing now every day in heaven. And then again Chris -a very underrated guitar player- plays with the acoustic guitar "Silk and Steel" a little piece who could sign Steve Hackett or Steve Howe in a classic album from the 70's. Then the album comes back to the metal territories with a bunch of pieces that are instant classics to me. I enjoy specially the superb "Summer's Rain" intro and the frantic rhythm in "Hounds".
