2.5 average | Bigwill2k | December 17th 23 | I like the expressive screams and moans on Spit, they're something unique and genuinely menacing.
They are way more emotive than the average male grunt! The music was a little sloppy, especially
the cohesion of the instruments. Its a sign of the times
that that's almost refreshing to hear in 2023 where everything in the mainstream is a nice shiny
product.
Unfortunately the ramshackle musicianship means it doesn't have the propulsion Id like it to have,
the guitar tone is
very 'brown' but they do grind away nicely sometimes. The drums get swamped occasionally which
contributes to the feeling of being stuck in the mud. The singing never quite lands, finale of
Charlotte excluded, that's an unexpectedly touching passage of music and I wish they explored
their post rock side a bit more!
I'll put some of the teething problems down to this being a debut. However it is growing on me
after a bad first impression. I hope the next album fixes some of the issues.

2.0 poor | davezillaMP3 | July 27th 20 | One thing i will give some positivity about is you can tell that these girls were rather passionate and one could argue they broke ground for woman in metal, however this debut is rather poorly played. the ballads are a misfire and the screams on this album are not got at all, sounds more like karaoke. the instrumentation is decent but in the end, i really really wanted to like this album after everything i have heard about this group but i just cannot say i enjoyed this album, sorry. But i really do appreciate the effort

1.5 very poor | Hanusko | May 25th 17 | Decent 1.5
When you are going through each song and are desperately trying to find something to enjoy...You know there is something wrong.
I gave it a try, but it just isn't good. There are problems everywhere, it's so dissapointing. Take the opener for example: The most stereotypical nu-metal riff, extremely amateurish drumming, terrible ''one-word'' hook and TRULY BAD vocal performance...Morgan Lander might not be the greatest singer, but I can mostly get over that, but her harsh vocals sound so AMATEURISH, she really sounds like angsty 15 year old learning to scream for 2 months...and I chose the opener just as an example, but that's everywhere, it is instrumentally bland and uninteresting, full of these awful hook ,,One-liners'' and often so dissapointing. Let's take the second song for example: Decent ending, almost deftones-ish atmosphere and slow fade-out...but then someone decided that this isn't gonna be the ending and she needs to add another 20 seconds of her screaming NO!...!!Why!!...Was it really necessary?
Highlights: I can't really talk about highlights, but I've mostly enjoyed these a little ,,Paperdoll'' - while obviously not great from vocal standpoint, it's instrumentally unique compared to the rest of the album, plus it has quite strong ending, ,,Brackish'' - If prodigy were Nu-metal band, this is what they'd sound like -('')- PS//DON'T LOOK INTO THE LYRICS IT'S GONNA MAKE EVERYTHING WORSE. PSS//It's full of very ,,familiar'' riffs and I am lazy to look from which album they are, but at least 7/12 of these main riffs I've already heard somewhere

3.0 good | Jared Floryan | September 28th 14 | Kittie gets a massive quantity of hate on here, I've noticed - biased or not. After having checked out their debut full-length album Spit, they're perhaps a band enjoyable in both small or borderline medium doses. This album does not have an original sound, though for a group of females who were amateurish, it's frankly not as horrendous as I expected. Morgan Lander's no Cristina Scabbia or Sandra Nasic in the vocal area, although she can lure a dolt or two in with those enraged screams of hers.

3.5 great | f_u_c_t | July 16th 06 | Kittie is one of those bands that probably couldnt build a large fan-base if their lives depended on it. People just cant relate, or people just cant stand them. They've put out numerous albums, and personally...this is the only one I really give a shit about. The opener "Spit" is a great song, just like almost all the songs on this album. It has my all-time favorite Kittie song "Brackish" on here. And Paperdoll isnt a bad acoustic song either. If they would keep making albums that sounded like this, albums without all the horrid screaming and more singing, they might actually get somewhere.
