An 18-minute song with no chorus. Sounds a little ambitious, no? It is, but NOFX pulled it off. For me, this is one of the greatest songs ever written. It is an 18-minute Punk symphony, something that Green Day would have liked to have written, but couldn't. The bass work of Fat Mike is outstanding, arguably his best. The lyrics are emotive and thoughtful throughout, while the backing harmonies and instrumentals are sensational. This is Punk Rock at its absolute finest.

But does The Novelty make up for a ~5-song EP? Depends on my mood, I guess.

Best punk rock song ever devised, not even arguable. They fought off just about every detractor who knocked them for their simplicity with this one. A band known for sub-2 minute songs strikes with an 18-minute behemoth of a track that encompasses everything awesome about true punk music.

Simply put, The Decline is the creative zenith of mid-90's pop-punk and NOFX's career. In its eighteen-minute runtime it shows just how much talent and creativity the genre is capable of, it has not and will not be topped, and stands as one of the finest songs created in the last two decades, haters be damned.

First time I've ever taken the the time to comment on anything, let alone a music review, but let me just say, as a fan of eatly 90's So Cal Punk rock, this guy's earlier review nailed it on the head. NOFX isn't about making perfect music. They're straight up trying to make the music that they want to. What ever they may be feeling when they get together, it's all what's flowing at the moment. We may be used to certain things from certain bands, but I guess my point is, this song proves they can conform easily and throw out an absolutely awesome epic song that sounds like NOFX ,yet is tight and rips! Respect the fact that we still have one of our favorite bands, in my case for over 12 years, that still does it like they should. Like we all want them... Rock on NOFX. Can't wait for Sayreville, NJ 10/14/08! Actually my first time seeing ya'll live!

In a world in which punk music generally devolves into three or so chords, NOFX really shines through on this song. The bass is impeccable, providing anything from complex bass lines (surprising for the genre) to mellow reggae lines, the guitars are great throughout providing amounts of energy that may make you want to go out and start moshing inside of your bedroom, the drums are steady and keep the beat while throwing in some impressive fills, and hell, even a trombone (which I'm a sucker for) kicks in at just the right time to provide an epic feel. The 18 minute epic piece seems to go by just as fast as an average 2 minute punk song. That being said, you will want to listen to it again and again unlike a certain other band's "punk ballad masterpiece." *cough Green Day cough*
