this is pretty much what every extreme metal album should be. another fantstic outing by everyones most favorite/least favorite metal band. guitar riffing is sick drums are blasting. potential album of the year

The first thing i want to say about this album is i have been waiting for a cof album with these kind of keyboards ever since i first learned about them back in 2003 and let me tell you the keyboards do not disappoint, i have been reading alot of reviews about how the keyboards are "too loud" and cover up the other elements of the song. if you think this is true about your opinion i don't know how you ever got into cradle in the first place the keyboards have been a vital part of their formula since dusk and her embrace which is when they really started to get recognized anyway. The keyboards in this particular album have more of a "castlevania" vibe to them and i think its fantastic. anyone who knows *** about this band knows they are totally tongue in cheek so when people call them "cheesy" or anything along those lines I think you are taking the music far too seriously and missing the point. now don't take that last sentence as me saying that they are not serious musicians because that is definitely not the case, cof in my opinion are one of THE most refreshing bands in the metal scene. Honestly how many more ***ing breakdowns and sweep picking can people stand? The only real problem I have with the album is that the female vocals are ***ing trash. do you know how embarrassing it is the be blasting cof in the car and all of a sudden the temo drops and some cheesy chick with an accent starts running her yap totally not metal.

Cradle of Filth's songwriting begins to feel formulaic and repetitive at this point, most of the songs have the same core ideas, the female singer feels bored and uninterested and the concept here is not as interesting as usual Cradle's writting. On the other side, this has some nice songs such as The Cult of Venus Aversa or the album closer. All in all this is another weak outing in the band's discography.

This isn't necessarily terrible, the drumming is rampant and there's some good riffs, and Dani is fairly average, but fuck it's just tedious, it really did not need an hour and a half run time. Also, while I normally enjoy Dani's pterodactyl shrieks, sometimes he does this awkward almost guitar wail of sorts? Yeah, it's not good. Had the album been 45-50 minutes it would have been relatively good, but that really is the killing factor.

The only problem I have with it is every song ends in the same way, Dani Filth uses the same extended scream he showed off on the first track over and over, and so far of what I've heard of it The Persecution Song sounds way too much like The Death of Love.

To you CoF: Instead of being hilariously over-the-top in terms of your dramatic (read: ridiculously stupid) orchestration, you go a notch higher into unforgivable territory. Dani Filth suffers more anal prolapses on this record then I can count and your attempts at infusing your black metal with symphonic elements is easily your biggest failure. It's fucking hysterical to be honest and you should be ashamed. Synths glimmer without reason and string sections are formulaic in the fact that they overpower everything with their buttfucking simplicity and their oddly electronics-based pastiche. It sounds like you recorded the synth strings from a two hundred dollar keyboard in order to heighten your doom and gloom image, but this trait seems to be the downfall to most metal bands who try this whole depressive shtick. Granted you have some small level of musical ability, but that goes to waste once the listeners realize how you're not able to comprehend how distasteful your mixture of violin screeches and standard-fare black metal is.

This album is very close to being awful. Cradle of Filth present nothing new and the compositions are worse than ever. If you remove the keyboards from this album, you'll get ''Thornography''. I believe ''Darkly..'' is the worst album from CoF so far...
