Rawr. I'm a dinosaur. Hear me roar. Well, squak. Wanna know what I sound like on this record? Ok. FOIHSDIGSOIDUFIPSHDIPFGUOGF*GE)GFREOUGFPIUGSDPIG. Thats sexy and catchy right? Yeah my drummers a much better singer but all the kids like to hear me rip apart my vocal chords so I get to be lead Velociraptor. Oh, and my band is like uber generic. Yeah. It's like they sound like a bad metalcore version of Hawthorne Heights. Except we kinda want to be really poppy still so we make really simple basslines and just faux-wank on our guitars. Squawk.

I can sum up my feelings towards this album in two words: Worthless. Garbage. There is not a single redeeming quality to be found amongst this wreckage of vomitous singing, unremarkable guitar and unnoticed bass, indistinguishable tracks, and horrifyingly bad lyrics, with the occasional drab guitar solo thrown in for good measure. As tracks pass by, it's hard to tell them apart. The guitar work particularly contributes to this problem, being that it is as generic as possible - you could likely replace the guitarist with a robot programmed to do about three or four simple actions, and nobody would notice.
On a similar note, if the lead singer died and singing duties were passed on to another member (say, the drummer), the music here wouldn't be terribly good by any means, but at least it'd be very listenable. He does precisely everything wrong when he tosses his cookies all over the painful, unpoetic lyrics - I imagine that every single person who listens to this band thinks to themselves "Wow, I could sing that better". Too bad they aren't wrong.

This album is Atreyu at their flashiest, the vocalist is at his peak and the relief vocals are good. They are a melodic hardcore/metalcore band but they are an exception to the run of the mill whinning bands out nowadays. They do have emotional lyrics, but their lyrics are more about being angry than about crying about their problems. The riffs(when not a rip off of In Flames) are pretty good. The drummer does his job at keeping the pace of the album, really nothing spiecal. If you don't like melodic metalcore don't get it but if you are open about it try it out, they are fairly better from the rest of the pack.

Dear God... where do I even begin? Well, Atreyu is a pop metalcore band. They have one of the most obnoxious vocalists I've hear in my years. He sounds like he's about to hack up a kidney most of the time. He also has the ability to complete negate anything the other vocalist could hope to contribute to the flat, uninteresting instrumentals. The only positive I see in this is that it got my friends into heavier music. Overall a bad musical experience.

There comes a point in time where most people outgrow this, but Bleeding Mascara, Right Side of the Bed, and The Crimson are still fairly decent.

We were in the van for two years, and it seemed like every time we left home, there would be a crisis with someone close to us, and there was nothing we could do to help. Eventually the van becomes like an isolation chamber in which we internalized every trauma or negative experience. When we came home and starting writing the album, everything came pouring out, with the intensity of something new. It was really cleansing.

It's really not as bad as we all said it was back then. Atreyu DOES have some moments of cheesy popcore brilliance in there, they're not awful at their instruments, and they can write monster hooks. Alex's various tone-deaf, pitchy, obnoxious and warbly screams are some of the most unintentionally-hilarious musical treasures of the 2000s, but the dual-vocal chemistry with drummer / clean vox Brandon is pretty nifty at times and helps offset the more annoying qualities (and godawful lyricism). The Curse is a hugely flawed but good record. There, I said it.

Just like the rest of you good ol' residents, I was 11 once and couldn't get enough of the metalcore quintet Atreyu. As years passed, the times had changed in either an awful or better way. The Curse is a bit less of a nervewrecker unlike its nigh-exclusively disastrous antecedent, though it just so happens to be plagued by said album's identical problems; the verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus ideas being done to death, alongside the awkward imagery and Alex Varkatza's unpolished screaming, deserve honorable mentions.

Ahhhhh The Curse. What can I say? It's not terrible, but it's really not good. 'Bleeding Mascara' and 'The Crimson' are good. Of course I used to like it when I was like, 14 or something. But yeah... Use it as a 'step-up' album to help you find better metal music. Or use it as a coaster for your drinks.

Wow holy shit, these other people are harsh i think this is one of the best albums i own, i personally think the lyrics are great, but what would i know i'm just one of 200,000 people that bought this album so they must be doin something right i guess

If your into this style (ie; casual listener) this album is sure to please, and those of you can add an extra point to the rating. Those with higher expectations will either cringe or give it rare occasional listens. They have pretty much progressed(?) from metal(core) adding heavier "emo" themes and rock/pop themes and the newest album.
