A landmark, classic album...if Bon Jovi is the closest you come to heavy metal. Cheesy, overproduced rubbish that represents some of the eighties' worst trends. Even Poison did better than this shit. You can pour some sugar on me all you like, but Hysteria is a turd rolled in glitter.

Hysteria. Number 472 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Of All-Time list. It's supposed to be the best glam album ever. It's supposed to be wonderful. Well, you know what? It may supposed to be a lot of things, but for one sole reason: It was a hit. Hysteria is not metal, it's not even hard rock. It's just pop rock really. Women and Rocket kick off the album to an average start, but then we get Animal, which is one of my least favorite songs of the 80's. And then we're treated with more and more garbage. Wait, isn't Pour Some Sugar On Me supposed to rock? Well, guess what. It doesn't! It's just annoying pop. To be truthful, the only good song is Armageddon It, and that song is too long to genuinely enjoy. So yeah, Hysteria is a terrible album.

I remember being uncomfortable to admit my love for this album too, but I soon grew up and recognised that I do indeed have my own taste. Rock, metal, pop, honestly who gives a fuck about genres in 2020? Get out of your mum's basement. Album is fucking fantastic, period.

Maybe the other soundoffs said it better, but I'm going to state my opinion anyway. I fail to see how this album is a classic in any way whatsoever, besides producing a few staple on classic rock radio. That's the other thing, if classic rock radio was truly classic rock radio, you'd hear lots of variety with things like the Velvet Underground, The Stooges, or some early Floyd being played, but it sticks to shit like this. This is nothing more than an overly polished piece of shit with little derivative beyond cheesy melodies, cheesy lyricism and singing, and over produced to hell drums. This is the epitome of what was wrong with 80s metal pretty much, minus the overly sexual themes that are displayed on other bands' every single song. Overall, I have no idea why this is considered classic in any way, when most people look back on this music with nostalgia, yet kind of shame at the same time. So yeah, one of the most overrated albums ever, which instead of even being boring as most overrated albums are, is instead a piece of over-produced shit.

Simply one of the greatest albums of the 1980's. Does include horrid failures like Pour Some Sugar On Me that still haunts me to this day, but in all it is a great album that deserves modern day recognition. Best Track: Gods Of War

Responding the success of Pyromania Def Leppard manage to turn in an hour-long hodgepodge more banal, bloated, and badly-produced than ever before and—in true 80's form—it's lauded as a triumph. I used to like the band back in the day, so I know there's some goodness here (there has to be, right?) but bugger if I'm going to sit through the whole thing again to find it.

All 12 songs were composed to become hits. For a strange reason, only the first half of songs did so. That doesn't mean that the rest of them lack of credibility, enthusiasm or coherence. It is just that radio stations were unkind with them and didn't give them much exposure. Rick Allen's willingness to continue behind the drum kit makes you appreciate it even more.Recommendation: the whole thing!

Setting new standards in remaining loyal to a band member by retaining one-armed drummer Rick Allen, Def Leppard released their biggest & best album in 1987s 'Hysteria'. Containing the greatest 4 song sequence in musical history, the glam stomp of 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' is ably backed up by power ballad 'Love Bites', rocker 'Animal' and the harmonized vocals of 'Armageddon It'. While the 2nd side does not quite match up, it still betters similar tracks from phenomenal predecessor 'Pyromania'. Enduring, influential and a classic in every sense, 'Hysteria' is quite simply one of the greatest albums of all time!
