| 0.0 | bloc | November 21st 10 | After the Burial correct all the flaws that were present in their previous album. Ranging from the lack of a definite song structure to just too much chugging and not enough variation. The presence of clean vocals is a nice touch, as they appear sparsely throughout the album, and they don't take away from any aggression that the band is trying to put out. Each of the 8 songs on In Dreams has a formula to follow, and it works in such a way that the listener doesn't get lost in the song. My only issue with the album is its length; with only 8 songs, it wouldn't have killed the band to maybe add two more songs to the mix instead of leaving listeners wanting more. I mean, they DID have 2 years to write this.

| 2.0 poor | asdemonsburn | November 22nd 10 | Anyone who thinks this is better than Rareform has got be to kidding themselves, this is a great example of a band regressing. Maybe if this was released in 2004 it would sound pretty fresh. You know, the days of Unearth, As I Lay Dying, It Dies Today, shit like that. The only difference with this album is the occasional djenting. In other words, In Dreams mixes old trends with new. Gone are the majestic leads, for godsake, the first track has a non-sped up Dragonforce solo in it. But hey! Who needs awesome melodies when there's clean vocal choruses!! This album is generic garbage, potential wasted.

| 4.0 excellent | Kyyzen | November 21st 10 | This is a very short album and it is this albums only downfall. It doesn't change my rating of the album though. It is a very well thought out album with 8 extremely solid songs that do not get old. The clean vocals are amazing and flow very well with all the songs. Very pleased they pulled off the clean vocals. Anthony's screaming is just incredible and his super high pitched screams (like in Pendulum) are absolutely incredible. I will enjoy this (as well as all ATB's previous albums) for years to come. Been a fan of After the Burial since the beginning =) Guitar work is amazing, more thought out song structures, great solos/sweeps, amazing drum work, amazing bass work; everything is as solid as it can be. No doubt in my mind 5/5!!
Anybody who says this is "generic" obviously are deaf. There is nothing generic about this album at all. Everything is so unique. And whoever said that "They have clean vocal chorus's" should look up the word chorus. All I hear are background clean vocals that compliment each song respectively. This album is very progressive and very new. No regression present at all.
Recommended Songs:
- Promises Kept
- Encased In Ice
- Pendulum
** Note these are recommended songs, I love all the songs on the album for a different reason these just seem to be my "top" favorites (if you will) right now. **

| 2.0 poor | poweroftheweez | November 22nd 10 | The band's weakest songwriting to date coupled with some absolutely atrocious lyricism leaves us with a very poor album I was convinced this band couldn't make. It's certainly a new direction for the band musically, but that doesn't make it a good one.

| 3.0 good | IAmKickass | February 7th 11 | Yes, it's heavy. 'In Dreams' is an album that strikes with force, but the traded technicality of their original stuff to the chug oriented style feels way to familiar and doesn't equal up to any of the bands previous efforts.

| 4.0 excellent | StarsAtDawn | November 29th 10 | I agree with other reviews I've been reading, yeah, Rareform is better in many respects, but this feels much more consistent and structured as you all have mentioned. Plus, I still can't get over how tight some of their transitions are, and let's not forget the crushing breakdown at the end of "Promises Kept". Face-melter! "Encased in Ice" might be a little too bro'd out for me at it's beginning though, and I'm not ready to commit to yet.

| 3.0 good | tehpickle | November 24th 10 | I honestly couldn't believe this was ATB the first time I listened; I had to go back and listen to Rareform to remember. Then again, I preferred the old vocalist in the original Rareform to the new one. This new one didn't sound right with the re-recording, and completely changed the sound in In Dreams. Less techy-deathcore (not a good example, but all I could think of) and more ordinary metalcore. I could even hear parts that sounded like All that Remains throughout the album.rNow don't get me wrong; the album is fine (for metalcore), but I HATE that this is what the new ATB is going to sound like.

| 4.0 excellent | MacWeener | November 22nd 10 | Always been incredibly talented, but now they've made it more listenable as well. Only two songs in and I'm
already blown away.
Also, massive fan of the newly introduced cleans.

| 3.5 great | TheFantasticDangler | November 22nd 10 | While this album has no groovtastic breakdowns better than the one in Berzerker, or any amazing leads as good as the ones found in the end of Ometh, In Dreams is a much more solid album. The 8 tracks found on here are all great, solid songs, while some tracks on Rareform got boring fast. Production and vocals have improved greatly as well.

| 3.0 good | MTTS | November 21st 10 | Album was good, but I was caught off guard as well by the short length, or at least it felt very short. rI would have liked to hear more melodic meandering in this as well much like the previous album. Still solid.

| 3.5 great | MalConstant | November 21st 10 | Fantastic release by ATB. Lots of shredding and the clean vocals sound solid. The only thing that bothers me about this album is that it seems too short. Could have benefited from a couple more tracks.

| 4.0 excellent | TheFourthCircle25 | March 22nd 15 | After The Burial follow up their masterpiece "Rareform" with an album that focuses more on melody and less on technical riffing. Normally this would be a problem; however, "In Dreams" manages to craft a catchy and heavy album that will no doubt garner more of a following then they already have. Vocalist Anthony Natormaso comes into his own on this one, and the songs feel a little bit more structured than on their previous works. While "Rareform" is still the better album, "In Dreams" is by no means a step down, but rather a continuation for After The Burial and an accessible album that many will enjoy whether they've heard ATB or not. 9/10

| 3.5 great | Deuce8311 | May 30th 12 | Overall a great sophmore release. The sound is taking a bit of a new direction that some like and some don't. I believe In Dreams is better than Rareform, due to the variety present. The album isn't just riddled with chugging, and offers some interesting twists such as the short use of clean vocals. This doesn't however take away from the heaviness of the album since it's used rarely. It will be interesting to see what direction After the Burial takes in their next release. Will they continue to try to evolve, or return to the ways of Rareform? Let's hope they continue to evolve.

| 4.0 excellent | prsfan | May 2nd 12 | Intelligent, melodic, polyrhythmic metal masters, ATB accentuate these traits exceptionally on their latest album, In Dreams. "To Carry You Away" is a classic in my heart; it's one of those songs that just touches me in the right way all the way through. "Your Troubles Will Cease And Fortune Will Smile Upon You" may be simple and to the point, but once again, ATB's execution is solid. "Promises Kept" is another great melodic song. There are great polyrhythms scattered all across the album; for example, the last riffs from "Bread Crumbs & White Stones" are pretty original and awesome. "Encased In Ice" is a brave and short song to end a short album on, bad ass in its own way (though I would have preferred a more epic ending song). There's no song I dislike on the album, because ATB is simply an amazing band with exceptional talent and writing prowess. The quality of their riffs and songwriting is high. This album is definitely more mature and melody-focused than Rareform. Rareform definitely comes off as more raw and brutal, though taking nothing away from In Dreams. ATB is a band that I'm glad exists, because I thoroughly enjoy their music. "Music to my ears."

| 4.0 excellent | ChuckyTruant | March 11th 12 | In Dreams feels to me like a ride through Space Mountain at Disney World. Except smoother, because this production is super slick. It gives off a good vibe and is tons of fun. Anthony does a great job on vox, not to mention most the lyrics are actually good. Especially 'To Carry You Away'. Riffage from Trent and Justin is superb as always. Lee's bass lines are actually audible, however he's following the guitars most of the time. And Dan does a good job on drums. His kick drum patterns aren't easy to follow. Over all a very enjoyable record.

| 2.0 poor | Xenorazr | November 27th 11 | Almost completely lifeless and holding next to nothing which compels it forth, In Dreams serves little to contribute towards a genre which, with works such as this, seems rightly criticized. There might be room and potential in many genres and styles, but that doesn't make the album any more enjoyable (if at all).

| 5.0 classic | Isaacbean | May 11th 11 | One of my favorite albums. So much unique brutality and progression within this band. Unbelievabley good. With solos that cause my ears to bleed in the best possible way, and breakdowns that cause me to poop. Everywhere.

| 0.0 | Motiv3 | December 14th 10 | Its a shame to see a band with much potential fall by the way side and that is the case with After the Burial. Gone are the inventive leads, solos and progressive leanings once written in rareform. Instead ATB have embraced the meshuggah tendecies which were tasteful in rareform which have become the forefront of In Dreams. Unfortunately whilst their songwriting has definitely become more consistent, they fail to build on their new direction and become lost in a sea of mediocre and boring meshuggah-esque chugging, polyrythms and juns.
ATB could of made this work, whilst the vocals are still as kick ass as ever, they fail to deliver any long lasting memorable moments like presented in rareform: in short, theres nothing that stands out as anything but average and the uniqueness they once had in rareform is almost non-existent. And don't get me started on the breakdowns...not only are they generic as hell, they are bad...bad placement, bad execution, bad everything, they make no impact and are laughable, it would be better to take then out altogether.

| 3.5 great | JWT155 | November 27th 10 | After the Burial return off the heels of Rareform to deliver a less technical but fun album. Anthony Notarmaso does a memorable job behind the mic, showing great range between his screams and growls, and there’s plenty of shredding with a great mixture of melody and breakdowns.

| 3.5 great | circa923 | November 22nd 10 | A very interesting album, I'm really surprised they added a more god forbid/ Unearth style thrash into the mix. This doesn't take away from the album actually the blend with their style is a very welcome change for me, leaving for some extremely memorable parts. However overall the album lacks well thought out transitions and song structures, and contains to many breakdowns.
Bump |
| 3.5 great | wyankeif1337 | November 22nd 10 | They sound extra Meshuggahtastic, and the vocalist is thousands of times better than he was on the Rareform rerelease. This album is full of win. However, unlike Rareform, it doesn't have a single exceptional song.
