Banging first EP that conjures everything the band will further display in full-lengths outputs - mainly pure fucking passion - with the closer being especially awesome for my post-rock bitch ears.

The debut EP from Midwest emo/post-rock collective The World Is A Beautiful Place And I'm No Longer Afraid To Die is pretty much exactly what you'd expect from them: gorgeous post-rock and evocative emo coming together seamlessly. That said, it does suffer somewhat from being pretty non-descript despite its inherent prettiness. No one moment on the EP really sticks out as an emotional climax, which is different even from their latest incarnations. It's well written and enjoyable to listen to, and the potential is undoubtedly there, but the songs don't quite reach the heights they look to being aiming for. They'd get better, to be sure, but even then, there's nothing at all wrong with Formlessness, especially if you're a fan of the emo/post-rock combo.

"The World is a Beautiful place and I am no longer afraid to die" shows themselves to have a very unique sound on this EP, combining Emo and Post Rock. They make the combination work really well together. It also has a very relaxed sound to it also, which is nice.

Marginally better vocals than on "John is Dead", but the last song is the only thing on here that really bumps it above your average emo band. If all the songs were at the level "eyjaffjallajokul dance" this would easily be a 4 or 4.5. 3.3/5
