| 1.5 very poor | EXSCHISM | August 19th 23 | Reminds me modern Annihilator, which is not where a band wants to be. Lame lyrics, with extremely pseudo tough guy posturing. Extremely lousy riffs, backed by poor wafer thin production, plus that clacky drum sound, just sucks the energy out of this. Doesn't even sound like KK & Glenn, solos sound like Slayer rejects. Vocally Tim Ripper Owens is pretty good honestly, has a great range, and clearly knows his shit, but chooses the most lame delivery imaginable, skill =/= the ability to make good choices when it comes to writing. The issue here is really his low register vocals, often like a poor mans King Diamond, compare to Halfords lower range & it's chalk and cheese. Take Brain Dead, those vocal effects just bring a dingy grot over the track that drones rather than grooves like they hope. I get the impression that they were dead sure they wanted this album to be "theatrical" more than any had been for Judas before. Unsure why they just didn't go for painkiller 2.0 with him doing his best to copy Halford, would have been okay enough & probably begrudgingly would have been accepted.

| 2.0 poor | GamamJ | March 16th 20 | After the spectacular Painkiller (imo their best ever albium) Judas Priest continue chunring out garbage after the departure of Rob Halford. The album had the potential to be okay, however the riffing is stale, but mainly the awful industrial effect help no one. Intros are way too long, ruining all the feeling of the music. Last track is a solid priest epic however.

| 2.0 poor | Robbit | October 28th 17 | JUGULATOR has its moments, but gets rather goofy by trying to be too over-the top with the ultra violent lyrics, guttural backing vocals and downtuned guitars. Where PAINKILLER succeeded in taking things up a notch, this falls flat for me. It is one of Priest's heavier albums, but the heavier-then-thou execution makes it also seem a bit cartoonish. Ultimately, a lot of fans were judging this album by how well Tim "The Ripper" Owens could walk in the huge shoes left by Halford's departure. On the surface, his vocal chops seem plenty capable enough, but lacked the soul to sell these overwrought, mediocre songs.

| 5.0 classic | KManoc1 | September 25th 17 | I think that this album is hated mainly because Rob Halford doesn't sing on it, and I can understand that. But honestly, Tim "Ripper" Owens is a pretty good vocalist as well. He not only does high-pitched screams like Rob, he also throws some growling into the mix. Now for the instrumentation. As opposed to a traditional Heavy Metal album with guitars tuned to E Standard, this album has a heavier, more aggressive Thrash Metal/Groove Metal-oriented sound with guitars that are tuned to C and C#, and I think it works really well.

| 3.0 good | Resident Metalhead Piranha | July 5th 17 | Rob Halford left, and newcomer Tim "The Ripper" Owens, famous for leading a JP cover band and was a big fan of the group, became the new frontman. Sporting an impressive falsetto and melodic yet gruff vocals, he wound up being the best component here and sings in reverance of Rob Halford if a bit similarly. Add on the deeper dive into thrash and groove territory, solid production values, and dark themes, and you've got what could be the recipe for a great album. Unfortunately, Jugulator is a serious stepdown from the monstrous Painkiller, but it's not a bad album for the most part. Opener t/t and "Blood Stained" aren't standout, but they have meaty riffs, blistering solos, and Tim's pleasantly aggressive vocals. "Dead Meat" is much better with a memorable bridge and chorus and better riffs. "Burn in Hell" is a great tune with catchy vocal lines and solos, and "Bullet Train" is a high speed burner that lives up to its name. "Cathedral Spires" is the longest song here and a very good closer that ranks with the band's best closers due to its buildup, epic chorus, and dramatic structure. Despite being let down by laughable lyrics, unoriginal guitarwork, and bland material, there's a handful of tunes that work well, and Tim "The Ripper" helps make this album listenable. The 98' version of "Rapid Fire" is pretty nice too.

| 2.0 poor | Ganoncannon | April 26th 16 | There is a semblance of something potentially decent in here but it just doesn't quite get there. Bullet Train and Cathedral Spires aren't bad though.

| 2.5 average | FirstStrikeIsDeadly | October 11th 15 | Remember how awesome it was when Judas Priest decided to get way heavier out of nowhere on Painkiller, incorporating influences from (then-)contemporary thrash groups? I guess they tried to catch that lightning in a bottle a second time, but now with groove influences. Didn't work out too well. This isn't truly irredeemably horrible, and Tim "Ripper" Owens isn't half bad (except when he's shouting, like at the beginning of Abductors or on a lot of Brain Dead, which may be the worst song on here), but the lame studio effects and the occasional forgettable riffs really drag this down. I can't really say it's Tim Owen's fault that Judas Priest's late 90s attempt to be heavy and cool was more or less a stinker, but Rob could've provided songwriting contributions to make this better. After all, Fight's first album was pretty good and it had some thrash and groove influences too.

| 3.5 great | EcoChocolatacchi | May 7th 15 | Tim is an excellent vocalist, fuck the critics. Too he sings over some relatively boring songs, with the exception of the nine minute "Cathedral Spires", one of the best Priest epics they made.

| 1.0 awful | ExplosiveOranges | May 4th 14 | Oh God, why? This makes Ram It Down look like a masterpiece. There is nothing good about this album. It's a boring mess that very well may have nearly killed Priest.

| 3.0 good | Xenorazr | November 14th 09 | Owens first outing with the band provides some solid material that's unfortunately too inconsistent and inaccessible to be worth a recommendation to most outside of the Priest's most dedicated fans.
