The lyrics on this album are pretty disappointing. While still staying true to their political roots, they just seem poorly written here. Nonetheless, it's a great album, and the instrumentation - especially Chris #2's bass work - makes up for the lack of lyrical talent which is evident. Once again, punk and pop are merged to create that sound which Anti-Flag calls their own, and I'm happy for that.

For Blood and Empire marks a huge improvement in sound from the band's previous snoozefest, The Terror State. There is alot more variety present, and Anti-Flag takes more chances on here. The political commentary is more or less the same as it's always been, but Anti-Flag at their best is able to have fun while making this type of music, and FBAE is where they seemed to have regained that feeling. The riffs may not be as memorable as on Underground Network, but the band is still solid, and tracks like Hymn for the Dead, WTO Kills Farmers, War Sucks Let's Party and Depleted Uranium is a War Crime offer interesting subject matter, and the band sounds genuine as always throughout the album, despite the fact that a couple songs just come and go, there isn't really anything bad on here.

On-the-nose political punk that's largely average. There are a few decent tracks ("The Press Corpse," "The Project for a New American Century," "Depleted Uranium Is a War Crime") but this is by-and-large quite dull. The semi-incoherent political ideology presented, which amounts to little more than far-left talking points, doesn't help.

In my opinion the best Anti-Flag album out there. Full of good songs, "I'd Tell You But..", "The Press Corpse", "Hymn for the Dead ".. Too many!

Anti-Flag is a pretty good band. They're not even close to being one of my favortes but I have a couple of their CD's that i listen to every once and a while. What really gets me about Anti-Flag, though is the lyrics, especially on For Blood and Empire. First off, I usually don't like it when bands get too political. Anti-Flag, is the most political band i can think of. But some of the lyrics are just awful. For example, In This is the End (For you my Friend) the lyrics in pne partof the verse are as follows
a blitzkrieg of images to break your will
I hope you choke on every pill
The first line of that is good I guess but " I hope you choke on every pill"? That's just poor writing.
