Good Lord, people, give the guy a chance. Maybe it's the romantic in me, but to me this album seems like a bittersweet reflection on a past romance, not a self-indulgent (Note: this is about the album, not the videos) whine-fest. The vocals are expressive and the falsetto is impressive--"the untimely death of a cat" sounds more like Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes than James Blunt. And while the guitar is simple and, yes, somewhat repetitive, I don't see that as a problem--Death Cab based some of their best songs on simple three- or four-chord progressions, and no one seems to be knocking them for it.
This album is far from perfect (it peters out in the second half, and Blunt takes the wrong route on some vocal arrangements), but it is an immensely satisfying listen, and it's popularity should be recognized as a step in the right direction for pop music, back to singer/songwriters who know what the hell they're talking about.

It revels in being stereotypical and clich?with oh-so-little room for originality outside of the rather trippy cover art. I honestly cannot find an ounce of real talent to even be able to say the standby line in these circumstances, “He has talent and hopefully he’ll build on that next album” This album may not have originally made to be a major label tool for selling albums, but honestly, the only people I see enjoying this album are housewives in turbulent marriages and pre-teens who just got broken up with because summer came. If you have a strong tolerance for utter manufactured pop, you may be able to tolerate this album. If you like crap for music, well, this is just for you. What I see her is nothing but artificial balladry with the occasional attempt to be edgy; and by golly, it sure does sell records. But I can’t give this above a 1.5

"You're Beautiful", "Wisemen" and "No Bravery" I can actually quite stand. I'd even call them good. Still of very little consequence, of course, but that's more than I can say of most mainstream/pop music.

Okay, his voice is undeniably annoying, but you have to admit that he is a good songwriter on the first three tracks (High, You're Beautiful and Wisemen; also the singles from the album). It's just such a shame that the rest of the album plodds along the same course and everything just feels hopelessly recycled. At least a decent stab at the "acoustic-depression" market dominated by R.E.M..

my god, this is rubbish. and it's all i ever hear on the radio too. shows how much power the record compaines have in music, they pay out the arse to radio stations to play any old shit under their names. and then morons like my mum buy it! bleugh!

James Blunt has the most annoying voice in the world, in my opinion at least. It's just so damn high pitched. And he's one of those singers that just don't have a good high pitched voice. Some people can get buy, like the singer from AC/DC, but not this guy. His vocals completely sour me from this album. Considering the instrumentals were not as bad as the vocals, but still mediocre at best and the lyrics were lame I just cannot give this above a 2.

Excessively whiney vocals, similar to the untimely death of a cat, but constant. The guitar work is poor and repetetive, the lyrics are all depressing and unoriginal. He is so vain that he dies in all of his videos. I don't feel sorry for you James, I just wish you had fatal dysentry.
