Rammstein's six members poured their anger and frustration into the music, determined to make their debut album a cathartic experience. In an effort to find their feet and sound, not only they recorded an LP but they've created a genre of their own. Herzeleid is a collection of 11 tracks with fist pumping energy, intoxicated choruses, bangs of an industrial-sounded snare drum, metallic chugging of guitar tones and full of eccentric electronic samples. These characteristic soundscapes together with Till Lindermann's commanding vocals in the German language, comprise a unique experience. The idiom 'Don't judge an album by its artwork' is applicable to the maximum sense. Recommendations: "Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen", "Herzeleid", "Rammstein", "Asche zu Asche".

What a great riff compilation! Rammstein really knows how to catch the success in simplicity. Their first installment for their succesfull discography is a milestone for industrial metal and heavy music in general.

Doesn't hold up very well tbh. The lyrics
are still as provocative as back then,
sure, but the production is simply
terrible. It sounds like they recorded it
in my garage and didn't master it at all
afterwards. Also aside from some singular
standout tracks like for instance Heirate
Mich, all is just one big sound mass aka
every song follows the same formula. Odd
that they were able to keep this up for
almost thirty years now. Thank god for
their fiery live shows, attention-grabbing
newspaper headlines, wild videos, and a
capable producer stepping in at some point
and putting some actual catchiness in their
choruses lol.

An excellent debut from a solid band. Despite the fact that "Du Hast" put them on the international stage, this disc is consistently catchy and brutal at the same time, and a good starting point for someone looking to get into the band.

The first, the original, the one that made Rammstein, Rammstein. It ushered in a new sound, a new style.
With its aggressive hard hitting chunky riffs and angry. gutteral sounding lyrics, Herzeleid is by far one of the best metal albums to come out. Even though at first I didn't understand much of what was being said it still made me feel and it awed me how just a sound could make me feel and that I didn't have to hear what was being said to feel what Rammstein was trying to convey.
