I never had the chance to dig the Germans all these years, but I am glad that I did so by starting with their sophomore release. Sehnsucht is the home of "Du Hast", a track that I have grow up with and been listening to for the last 20 years or so. To my surprise, the aforementioned track is not the only highlight in the album. Rammstein record tracks in their native language and although this is difficult for the listener to comprehend at first, the catchy choruses and the vigorous rhythms help the end result to be extremely accessible. In addition to the language, the band's trademark sound is shaped by the grinding guitars, the powerful vocals and the techno-keyboards that help to create this one-of-a-kind 'industrial' sound. Recommendations: "Engel", "Du Hast", "Sehnsucht", "Tier", "Spiel mit mir", "Eifersucht".

Atmosphere in this one is just great. We can say that their unique and signature sound progressed after Herzeleid and gave us one of the stand out records of the 90's. You can definetely dance this one while you bang your head hard!

The album that show Rammstein to stardom with Du Hast! I like to call that song my conversion song, I heard it in 2003 and it turned me onto industrial. And it doesn't stop there, the entire cd is a tribute to that, very heavy songs and a bonus cover of a Depeche Mode song! Quite possibly their heaviest cd and most influential to heavy guitar players.

Sehnsucht is truly so much better than Herzeleid, it's sick...Better production (not good but at least bearable), much more hits, better lyrics (sometimes really scary and politically incorrect like on Spiel Mit Mir), great melodic lines that are different and distinctive on every track...my goodness. A whole nother level. They finally sat down in the studio, took a lot more time, and rigorously considered which songs should be included and which should be cut because they are ballast anyway. Top notch choices on here. Their second best overall after Mutter.

The only track Im not a huge fan of is Du Hast, and tbh it kinda kills the album a bit. No idea why that song was such a monumental hit when there are far better cuts on this album alone.

1. Sehnsucht: 3/5
It has an amazing intro and chorus but the rest of the song is bland. This song is just too techno-ish.
2. Engel: 3/5
this a decent song but, it sounds so sterile. The music itself is relentless but the vocals of Bobo are boring. This annoying bit brings down the entire song.
3. Tier: 3.5/5
The song sounds good and has a great groove to it; but there is one issue. During the chorus the keyboard makes it sound annoying as hell.
4. Bestrafe Mich: 5/5
This song is amazing! I love how the inro goes from the "ping, ping, ping" thing to the barrage of guitar and keyboard. This is one of the few actually good songs from sehnsucht.
5. Du Hast: 3/5
First and foremost this song means "You Have" not "You Hate" ( hate in German is hasst). It has an amazing groove to it but the whole Du. Du Hast. Du Hast Mich. thing is friggin' annoying! The chorus is great though.
6. Buck Dich: 4/5
Another good song off a turd of an album. I love the intro to this song, it just screams Industrial. Paul and Richard do a great job with their amazing riffage that sounds heavy as hell. Till's vocal are also an essential part of the song.
7. Spiel Mit Mir: 3/5
Mediocre at best. I have to admit that the guitar solo sounds friggin' amazing but the song is so long, slow, and boring.
8. Klavier: 5/5
Another great song off a turd of an album. Klavier begins slow, but then it explodes into the chorus when you least expect it. This song is lyrically amazing and everybody sounds great.
9. Alter Mann: 5/5
In one word? Beautiful. This song is great. It love the synth in this song. Till's vocal prowess show in this song especially when he sings the chorus. Perfection.
10. Eifersucht: 2/5
WTF!?!?!?!?!? This song is so friggin' annoying!!! It's stupid lyrically and it just doesn't sound good. The only good thing about this song is Till's evil laughter.
11. Kuss Mich (Fellfrosch): 0/5
In one word? Pathetic. This song is horrible. The only good thing about this song is the end.
12, Stripped: 4/5
This is a good song. It is REALLY strange to hear Till sing in English. As a whole the song is pretty good. The only thing wrong with it is Till's accent, it sounds awkward.
