Very overrated. You'd think that instrumental music would be a little less repetitive and try to keep your attention through its constantly changing nature. Beacons doesn't do this exactly, it always seems like sections drag on for far too long.

As with all instru-metal, repetition is to be expected, and in that aspect "Beacons" doesn't diverge from the pack. However, don't think that just because I said that, that this is just the same riff strummed over-and-over-and-over again, because it isn't; there is more than enough variation to stand separate from the rest of the herd. Not the a classic, masterpiece, or anything of the sort by a long shot, but definitely worthy in its own right. 3.4/5

Ben Sharp at his best. Beacons may be his most organized album up to this point, and definitely his most emotionally rewarding. Post-rock/djent.

Some of the melodies and riffs on here are repeated too many times, and as a result Beacons drags. However, it also contains some truly exceptional parts, and the concept is highly effective (when the riffs aren't repeated ad nauseam). Interestingly, the slower tracks are some of the best (check out the one-two punch of "I admit it now. I was scared." and "We were all scared."). Overall, Beacons is an effective instrumental concept record, but some of its sections are a chore to slog through.

Cloudkicker's bedroom-tech, post-rock, guitar-god workouts are always a welcome respite, but on 'Beacons,' Ben's mix of a poppier sounding Isis and more streamlined Pelican is met with these huge Fucking Champs style riffs that give the LP an added oomph. The Fucking Champs are almost forgotten, but if you can find their old LP's they are highly recommended!

this album is simply gorgeous from top to bottom. the definitive instrumental prog metal rrelease. no other cloudkicker release comes anywhere near this quality as a whole, runfortunately, although let yourself be huge has moments that are just as great.

Not getting the hype at all. On my second listen through of Beacons I am still as bored and annoyed by the production and volume contrast as I was the first time. Some of the stuff on here is actually really good most of the time, but some of the bigger melodies and leads are covered up criminally by the incredibly repetitive/bland rhythms. In the end the result is an okay, kinda boring album with a lot of potential that wasn't brought to the surface the right way. It's not a bad album though, its still got some nice moments here and there, and it flows incredibly well. The problem is that its very unmemorable, kinda boring too often for my liking, and some of the best parts are muddled by production choices and an incredibly tiring rhythm and background section. An okay instrumental album that could have been much better. Incredibly overrated.
