A different peog-metal band. I was expecting the usual hour+ of wankery you usually see in prog-metal (which for the record I am a hige fan of), however what you get here is something entirely different. Yes, the songs are complex, especially in their structure, and have plenty of instrumentally impressive passages. However the main way to capture the listener here is the song, the emotions in it and the vocalists incredible range. Wow. The album is also told as one long story, which is really cool.

A strong album, but hurt by its excessive ambition and overshadowed by PoS' future releases. If I'd heard this in 1997, I'd remark on how promising it is. One interesting aspect to note is a prominent early Queen influence in the harmonies and some of the melodies, especially on the piano, which isn't nearly as evident in later albums.
