3.5 great | Vanwarp | October 8th 10 | The album contains a good mix of songs, some catchy radio friendly choruses that blend
surprisingly well with some most aggressive metal. Labrie made the following statement
about his new album: "it's a heavy rock contemporary metal sounding album." The songs are
short and guitar driven with some truly great and very inspired guitar solos. The music is
modern sounding, very melodic and extreme at the same time. The song structures are not as
progressive as what we might expect from a James Labrie album, and the softer moments are
few and far between, but Labrie has put out a truly outstanding album.

5.0 classic | rampitcher25 | February 27th 12 | This album is incredible. It is full of good riffs, solos, and incredible choruses. I had never listened to one of Labrie's solo albums before this one and I have to say that I am a huge fan now. This is one of very few albums that I can listen to all the way through. This album showcases the talents of every member on this album. Wildoer has some really incredible riffs and fills and Guillory sounds amazing. I don't agree that this should be put under Labrie's name because everyone on this album contributed so much.

3.5 great | tom6 | March 9th 11 | Catchy - almost poppy - vocal-driven melodeath with a dash of technicality. LaBrie's vocal hooks and harmonies hold the album together, but guitarist Marco Sfogli and drummer Peter Wildoer (who also does the death growls) also manage to impress. Highlights are "One More Time" and "Jekyll or Hyde", though it's a pretty easy album to get all the way through.

0.0 | Jerrad | September 29th 10 | James LaBrie, who is arguably Dream Theater's weakest link, showcases a higher level of constancy with Static Impulse than anything Dream Theater has put out in the recent years. Static Impulse is an interesting mix of Progressive Metal with many other elements ranging from Melodic Metalcore to more Industrial sounds reminiscent of ex Dream Theater member Kevin Moore's musical outlet OSI. The song writing is very original and compliments LaBrie's vocals well while at the same time, showcases very technical musicianship which doesn't get "Overly Technical" for the most part. If you are a fan of Progressive Metal or Dream Theater I would recommend this.
