Prod here strikes the perfect balance between raw aggressiveness and clarity. This is fun fun stuff, but feels a bit formulaic in places - the closing riff especially. Still a fun record to jam when in need of aggression, riffs and fun, with pauses where they're needed. 3.8

What makes Nails' first album so significant isn't its brutality (br00tality), but rather its rawness. I feel like any power violence would sound fantastic the way this record was recorded.

Unsilent Death, the debut "LP" of Nails features the groups most unrestrained sound and subsequently their best. Nails' blend of crusty grindcore and powerviolence is violent, aggressive and energetic but stays structured with low end, beefy rhythms that contrast the all out snare barrage grind sections in between. The alternation between grooves and chaotic blasts is incredibly successful here and more effective than Nails' later releases where they start straying more towards the grooves. Kudos to Todd Jones on the vocals because without him this wouldn't be nearly as great. His angry, passionate, all-out rebellious yells and screams are the icing on the cake and he conveys a true conviction in his approach. The rest of Nails' discography is great but they truly started off with a special 14-minute masterclass.

A savage shot of adrenaline straight through the ears and into the primitive reptilian part of the listeners brain. Nail's, like many other bands on the grind/hardcore scene inject a healthy dose of groove into their music adding to its memorability and at times increasing the heaviness substantially. Like most music in this style though it is pretty one dimensional and even the immense grooves can't stop the songs from blending into one another.
