When I first heard the computerized voice at the beginning I thought I had stumbled onto some kind of spoken-word album and was about ready to close the tab. I stuck through the speech, however, and after listening to the entire album without pause I had only one thought: this is beautiful, this is art.

a masterpiece, a total work of art like few things on this wretched plane, feels like something that you'd find in a mass shooter's house as forensics digs through his effects, this is a story of love, blood, cum death and murder, elegant yet grotesque. rbuzzsaw guitars, frenetic yet often groovy drumming, and tortured poetry screamed by a madman. recorded in a fucking basement, clear yet gnarly as fuck production, the context of its creation only adds to its lore

Pure unadulterated aggression and a benchmark album in the genres. In his heyday, J.R was the absolute best in the scene and this record bears testament to his primal sounds. Slightly ousting "Terrifyer" as their magnum opus in my opinion, "Starbelly", and "Junkyard God" are my favorites.

"Prowler in the Yard" is much more than a definitive work in the Grindcore scene. I do not consider this work as the greatest achievement of the style, but the form of production and the violence imposed on both the cover art, the lyrics, and the album's introduction are largely original. I always like to revisit the sound from these folks, never leaving this beautiful piece aside. Garage Grindcore in its best shape and mold.

There's so many things that can be said about Prowler In The Yard that one measly soundoff will never be able to cover. You could write an entire college essay about this and Terrifyer both. One of my questions is, at the end of the album when Jennifer knows the people on the rickety old roller coaster will die because the ride doesn't stop, how exactly is that meant? Does that mean the train of the ride will eventually crash into another train that's parked in the station? Or does it mean that the ride will go on forever and ever, just looping itself while the passengers are trapped on it and eventually succumb to thirst and starvation? Either way it's chilling and that's literally only one line from one song on this record. Even the album cover makes you guess: is it a representation of a serial killer gone even madder or is it the band just taking the piss out of like-minded album covers? Everything on here keeps you guessing from the imagery to the lyrics to the music itself and that's legitimately impressive. Bravo, you sick bastards. The fact that they made something arguably better a few years later in Terrifyer is probably the most impressive thing of all when it comes to this trio of demented geniuses. This is an album to be experienced rather than merely listened to, and in a way that's the highest praise one can give an album. So enjoy, but maybe not too much.

Lacks the pristine production of the band's later work, but the ferocity and startlingly effective lyrics are intact. The closing quartet, while still heavy, breaks from the short grindcore bursts of songs previous, including an almost catchy riff-fest ("Hyperviolet") and a lengthy ambient outro ("Piss Angel"). A grindcore staple, and with good reason. Perhaps one of the eeriest, most disturbing records ever.

Pig Destroyer want every last one of you rotting souls to realize that the ride will never stop; you're going to die experiencing Prowler in the Yard, albeit not before vomiting as many cheerleader corpses as possible. J.R. Hayes' vocal performance and Brian Harvey's drum work are perhaps the stars of this discord fest; the former especially, what with his haunting presence and nightmarish (albeit poetic) lyricism that can put whatever imagery David Lynch evokes to shame.

There are a couple of things I love about this album along with other grind albums I have heard: the songs are short (for the most part), heavy, and to the point. This makes the songs that much more interesting and not repetitive. I also like the freaky intro and freaky finale of the album, good stuff.
