Suicidal Tendencies was introduced to me a few years ago by my father. I wanted a band that was intense and heavy. Suicidal Tendencies, in my opinion, is the ultimate of its genre and time. Upon hearing their self titled album, I was hooked. I loved the comic lines mixed with unique instrumental, but most of all I loved the fact that this band was TRULY against government and not afraid to say so in their songs. For example, the song "subliminal" is in fact about the government controlling everyone subliminally. Songs "I Shot the Devil" and "Fascist Pig" were aimed more directly at President Reagan. And the majority of their other songs that were not about government disestablishment, were about suicide (an equally important subject). Suicidal Tedencies has earned my respect, as it has many others.

Mid 8 out of 10: This is one of the few crossover thrash LPs I still love. I think what kept this LP sounding so nice throughout it's life was the energy it gives. While very angsty, this LP still gets away with it by using the aggression and speed to it's advantage.

Driven by anarchy and fueled by some traces of humor, Suicidal Tendencies holds up nicely for hardcore standards in spite of some production issues which are a little below-average at best; knowing Mike Muir and his family of Cycos, this might've been intentional.

I guess this is just one of those albums that doesn't hit me in the way it does others. When compared to How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today this album doesn't exactly hold up and gives off more of a immature "screaming into the mic" feeling. In all probability this is entirely intentional... but to me it all just feels more thrown-together rather than giving the album raw, hardcore feeling. 3.4/5
