Very fun album with elements of punk in many songs. Surf elements in "King of the Beach" and all of the faster songs. Self hate in "Idiot". "Take on the World", and "Green Eyes". Some psychedelic songs like"When Will you come?", "Baseball Cards", and "Convertible Balloon. rBest songs- Post Acid and King of the BeachrCons- Alot of repetivenessrBottom Line- If you enjoy fun and fast music with punk and indie elements. And a sense of not caring, then buy. And turn up the volume. It does have a departing sound from the previous Wavves albums though.

a catchy summer album that doesn't really do much but be a catchy summer album. it does have some mixtape-worthy songs, but the filler tracks [and there are many of them] drag the album as a whole down.

So RYM tags this as "indie surf", and hell yeah that's apt. Indie rock with jangly guitars, some punk assaults, a lo-fi approach, surf rock licks and surf lyrics: yeah indie surf is cool ig. It is cool, yes, but it's cool because of aesthetic, much less because the songs are actually moving. Some of them truly bang, like the one-two punch opening the record, "Take on the World"'s distant yet catchy chorus, or "Green Eyes" which just ooze banger, but the majority of the tracks are aight material with some quirky-for-the-sake-of-quirkiness stuff happening once in a while. Am harsh tbh, this is kinda fun.

The only artists with a talent for making me want to bash my head against my computer monitor, that's something folks. Just a bunch of cliche pop intentionally washed in noise that gets off for being "fun". IF I HEAR ONE MORE ARTIST USE THE GODDAMN DRUMBEAT FROM BE MY BABY I SWEAR ON ALL THAT I HOLD DEAR I WILL STOP LISTENING TO MUSIC ALL TOGETHER.

Despite what people say about Nathan Williams and their live performance, this album was perfect for summer 2010. The moment I put it on, I feel like I'm in 90+ degree weather and basking in the heat. Nothing life changing here, but lots of fun.

King of the Beach is an undeniably fun record that implements an almost punk-like surf rock sound and does it better than any of the other similar records that came out in 2010.

King of the Beach isn't bad, though it's hardly anything special either. The music is alright, but it feels like just another lo-fi summery album with a few catchy melodies. And the lyrics don't add a whole lot either. Listening to him talk about how nothing means shit, and how he doesn't give a shit, and how nobody should give a fuck... what am I supposed to take away from that?
