Probably one of the best technical metalcore albums of them all. The main frustration with this album though lies in its inability at certain points to be able to carry forward some of its ideas such as that fantastic space rock riff upon "Juggernaut" with Brodesky's singing soaring along with it. That is my only gripe with a brilliant album.

Unfortunately, this site underrates this band and this album. This is an absolute metalcore classic, boasting incredible riffs, awesome atmosphere and brilliantly raw production from Kurt Ballou. To say that this is Cave In's masterpiece is an understatement, it's their opus by far. I saw a 2 review for this and read that the heavy parts were lame and uninspired I then proceeded to vomit. album slays dicks

Not quite completely matured but the intensity and musicainship is there. They have a tendency on this album to drift into ambient noise which is pointless. Overall a great effort.

Light 4. Love first three tracks. Kurt ballou very noticable production on this thing... but it was one of his first. Everything what kurt ballou produced after is better than this.

Strong 3.5 - Progressive metalcore... This Whole term starts Right here in 1998 with ,,Until Your Heart Stops'' am I saying this is the first Metalcore album with Progressive elements ? No there was couple of albums before, but this one succeeded, it perfectly blends elements of heavy technical metalcore with very thought out structuring, Decent amount of longer more layered songs and album concept that screams ,,We want to be Proggy'' just from the titles. My vision of this album being extremely inovative, influential and unique actually trumps my overall enjoynment of this album though. I do have huge amount of appreciation for this album, but It is not really my own personal taste, The production is bit too dreary, songs are not really that memorable and the vocals are very unsatisying. That is why 3.5rPS...I do actually enjoy the whole album, It just didn't really hit the spot

Until Your Heart Stops is a true classic in the metalcore genre. Featuring some of the best breakdowns and off the wall riffs in the early days of the genre, it even has a fair bit of catchy melodies in songs like the masterpiece Juggernaut and Halo of Flies. This album proves that Cave In should be ranked among other classic bands (Converge/Botch/Dillinger Escape Plan) in the metalcore genre. If more bands followed the likes of Cave In metalcore would be a much superior genre. Best songs Juggernaut, The End of our Rope is a Noose, and Halo of Flies.
