| 1.0 awful | gudledoodle | December 28th 13 | Hey guys I hope you like my first revoeiw on here, I heard this was a cool site to talk about music. But enough of that, let's get on with the review.
I will NEVER forgive Yes for such a bad and deliberately attention-gaining record.
In this album, Yes just wants to gain popularity and it bothers me. Anyway, for the review:
Owner of a Lonely Heart kicks off the album with a DJ-type moment, a popular move for hip-hop stars, yet Yes was supposed to be prog!
Why the hell did Cinema get a Grammy for instrumentals?! C'mon guys, listen to La Villa Strangiato!
Changes actually was not too bad, but still doesn't exactly capture the prowess of Yes' earlier albums.
etc.
So, altogether, I really didn't like the new Yes, but I know that there are people who do, even some prog fans suprisingly! It just isn't my taste in music, though. I mostly like classic Yes, and this was not it, guys!
So overall this gets 1/5 and I can't stand it,

| 4.0 excellent | OverkillFanBoy1980 | September 9th 18 | while this album certainly isn't true to Yes's traditional prog rock roots, it still is a great rock album, even if it isn't quite what you want when you say rYes

| 4.5 superb | ivanhowe2017 | November 28th 17 | 90125 is the album that many fans have embrace it and others, like the purist Yes fanbase, that tend to put it down. Yes made a risky move in the making of this album, since they were debating whether to remain an old sounding progressive rock stucked somewhere in the 1970`s or make their sound more accessible to the masses. Fortunately, for them, they chose the latter. But, unfortunately, for the old Yes fans, that risky move of jumping the mainstream bandwagon meant to be that the old Yes was gone and that their beloved band has sold out to the mainstream world. On the other hand, there was no place for Rick Wakeman or Steve Howe on this album to show their artistically-crafted abilities, which, IMHO, could be otherwise out of place. That is why, they hired the then-new guitarist Trevor Rabin and keyboardist (and original founding member) Tony Kaye , with Jon Anderson (vocals), Chris Squire (bass, backing vocals) and Alan White (drums) on board. The album itself offers a great deal of excellent songs with Owner of A Lonely Heart, It Can Happen, Changes, Cinema and Leave It as its key tracks. In the middle of all these, there are other songs worth checking out, such as Hold On, Our Song, City of Love and Hearts. BTW, there is an enhanced edition released by Rhino Entertainment in 2003 that included several bonus tracks, among them the previously unreleased "Make It Easy" and "It`s Over". Besides, All Music Rating is more than generous.
Track-by-track rating:
1. Owner of A Lonely Heart 4.5/5
2. Hold On: 4.5/5
3. It Can Happen: 5/5
4. Changes: 5/5
5. Cinema: 5/5
6. Leave It: 4.5/5
7. Our Song: 4/5
8. City of Love: 4.5/5
9. Hearts: 4/5
Average rating: 4.5 stars
Key tracks: Owner of a Lonely Heart, It Can Happen, Changes, Cinema and Leave It.
NOTE: The review and rating are based on the original 1983 9-track release.
BOTTOM LINE: 90125 is an album that offers a different view of Yes music: fresh, accessible sounding, simple-structured pop songs without any sort of pomposity or pretentiousness. If you love the 1980`s Genesis, Jethro Tull or Rush, this album is for you. Otherwise, if you are an old Yes fan, you better go somewhere else.

| 4.5 superb | Robbit | July 21st 16 | It's taken me years to make peace with 90125. Upon its release in 1983, I felt very disappointed about the overtly commercial
direction they'd chosen to take. Their earlier records were fairly uncompromising affairs that would sometimes yield radio hits as if
by accident. This was more calculated approach let me and many other old Yes fans feeling suspicious about the band's future
trajectory and intent. The sudden overexposure of their new material via MTV and FM radio at the time only added to my feeling of
unease with this album.
30+ years later, my opinion of this contentious anomaly has softened a great deal, especially when considering the inconsistent quality
of the albums that followed. I think it's also important to set aside direct comparisons against their earlier work, since this lineup
was clearly a new animal with a somewhat different agenda. Trevor Horn's production is truly amazing here and most of these songs
contain instantly memorable hooks. The band always possessed a very distinctive style of harmonizing their voices and this is
showcased on 90125 more than ever. And while the three closing tracks aren't quite as compelling as their hits, I wouldn't consider any
one of them to be throwaways. With my expectations a bit re-calibrated, I can appreciate how superbly executed this album was.

Hearts was only a half heart attempt to go back to prog. I guess these guys just can't do crap anymore.
