some people see this as a math-rock blueprint but it sounds to me like Fred Frith failing to attune himself to the 80s. like... there is cool stuff occurring here, but most of it has zero groove, some of the songs have no personality and just exist to stop. all the musicians were relatively young here but in places it still sounds like yer dad playing post-punk. maybe my complaint is that it sounds crap musically rather than crap sonically? the improvisation is definitely better than the form on this one
