Good attempt at a recovery from the messes known as STD (the acronym for that unholy mess speaks for itself) and STAGD. This album has some really memorable tracks in the form of Epitome, Let This River Flow, The Akuma Afterglow, King of the Threshold, and Night Comes Clean and does a great job at setting up for the behemoth known as The Living Infinite. The thrashy sound surrounding the whole of the album is definitely welcome.

Too emotional as always. I give good grades to albums too early and then have to lower my rating. This album is great, really great (especially for Soilwork), but 4 is all it could get, as it tends to get on the boring side real quick.

Not exactly what I was expecting, but way better that Sworn to a Great Divide. With Peter back and Sylvain joining the band, guitars feel very re-vitalized. The only real downside is (surprisingly to me) the vocals.

While Soilwork has only had one or two albums through their existence that deserve more than a 4, the best part about them is that even when they shifted from the legendary Gothenberg sound to the more alt/metal sound, they still didn't suck nearly as bad as the other sell outs. While it's pretty clear that they will never make another melodic death metal near masterpiece like "The Chainheart Machine" or "A Predator's Portrait", this new album is the best they've released in a while. The guitar work is superb; the solos are fast and colorful, probably the best they've ever done. The riffs can get pretty intense as well. While a lot of the album can get too commercial/samey in the choruses and structure, the guitar work is the highlight, and can sometimes make me completely forget the boring song formulas. Speed, the vocalist, got a little too soft on here, but again, this album was definitely interesting overall, and was better than some of their other previous material. While they may never truly be 'back', they've finally started kicking a little ass again.

Boys, pull those copies of Natural Born Chaos, and The Chainheart Machine out of those stereo players! It seems Soilwork is back...and I'm not even kidding, the band has actually improved in all departments....you read that correctly, ALL of them. It's probably the best thing the band has pushed out in ages. Plus that riff in "The Thrill" was pretty sweet.
