| 4.0 excellent | Jethro42 | May 13th 09 | Pretty good debut album. Less consistent than 'Acquiring The Taste' but it rawks. Highlights; The first 3 ones and 'Nothing at All' with its drum solo emerging in the middle of a classical piano ride that soon turns to a more jazzy feel. As Gentle Giant does so well. The band is essential for those who are fond of adventurous and complex electic prog rock. Also, the band offers some of the most beautiful melodies, and incomparable multi-part vocal harmonies and dissonant musical counterpoint.

| 4.0 excellent | BillyBrill | April 10th 23 | Filled with little quirks and gems, this blend of progressiveness and danceability makes them the scrunkliest boy of prog, second only to Hatfield and the North

| 3.5 great | GamamJ | September 20th 20 | Absolutely brilliant. An oft-overlooked gem in 70s UK prog-rock, Gentle Giant take the concept of progressive music a step further than most of their peers. Although there may be more technical bands, none in the scene were just as quirky and experimental as this trio. You've got classical, jazz, and rock all present in spades with an ode to the queen and UK anthem to boot. Awesome

| 4.0 excellent | Deadwing2112 | April 6th 20 | The eponymous debut of Gentle Giant provides nearly every appreciable asset normally treasured by progressive rock fans and yet remained in the castle dungeon without ever receiving its due accolades. This is superior musicianship and quite impressive considering its status as the band's inaugural studio release. Nothing At All is an epic nine minute experience and features a terrific drum solo courtesy of Martin Smith. Why Not? begins as a progressive number and shifts mid tempo into somewhat a southern blues time frame that would seem more in line with The Allman Brothers. The lyrics are fanciful of merry ole England during a time that no longer exists. And until today this reviewer missed the obvious Alucard ananym for Dracula. These lads are clever and cheeky.

| 4.0 excellent | TheIntruder | August 28th 15 | I am a big Gentle Giant fan. Gentle Giant was one of the pioneer bands of the progressive rock music and is also one of their bigger and best representative groups. Gentle Giant is an excellent debut album. It's probably their less complex musical work and it is for sure their most hard and heavy rock album. We must not forget that this is an album of 1970 and therefore one of the first progressive rock albums in the history. However, this album already have some of the main characteristics of their future music like the avant-garde and experimentalism, the fusion of rock, blues and jazz, the influences of the renaissance and medieval music and the prolific use of the multi-musical instruments.

| 4.0 excellent | CrazyFool84 | March 26th 09 | A pretty refreshing progressive unit, Gentle Giants self-titled debut should probably be listened to a few times before judgement starts to get passed on it. It definitely helps to let this one soak in, as there is a lot hidden amongst the music waiting to be discovered with each listen.
