Brent?s vocal presence and guitar twang is missing, but in turn it seems the newfound synergy between the current guitarist and the keyboard player gives the band a jazzy style and a darker ambient tone overall. The band sounds reinvigorated and you can tell Bill worked on these riffs for a number of years. It?s cool he finally let loose this time around. Not to mention Troy and Brann bring their A game on the vocal department making up for the missing void left by Brent. Props to the band for carrying on and thriving.

I was highly skeptical that this would be any good after their previous snooze-fest, but this easily one of the strongest records to date. A Vampire's Demeanor absolutely CRUSHES.

It's good. Some tracks have some potency behind them. But the tone of the lyrics also feels a little off to me on the whole, can't pinpoint why. And it feels like a standard Mastodon affair to me pretty fast. Maybe I'll actually want to listen to the whole thing front to back some day, but it's just not drawing me in or holding on to me right now.
